I am losing my kitty sponser
Her husband got laid off and she can't afford to subsidize me anymore. She did it for almost two years!! Thanks Gina for all your help, you are one sweet lady for all you do for the animals!!

Gina would trap, fix, and release feral colonies all day. She had several sponsers, including me, and she always delivered! She brought me catnip, food, litter, toys. She just loves my elderly kitty more than anything.

2. You're both wonderful for caring so much.
I had a woman who helped me trap the ferals in my neighborhood. They'd be neutered, then returned to the neighborhood. She was so compassionate, she wound up filling up her house with stray cats the local shelter didn't have room for. (She was a shelter volunteer). Finally, people began leaving cats in boxes outside her house and she couldn't handle it anymore. She was overwhelmed and burned out. But she did save alot of cats.

3. I am wanting to start volunteering again..
and thought about a shelter or a veterinarian. I can't do the shelter, because I would want to take them all home and also I would be sad knowing that animals were being put down. I just couldn't handle it.

They have openings at the low-income veterinarian for people to comfort the animals coming out of anesthesia, but I couldn't handle seeing the animals in that condition.

Still looking for something else....

4. Spay/Neuter Clinics
Please consider (or as it may be "re-consider") volunteering at a local spay/neuter clinic. I've done this myself many times. The recovery, for the most part, for dogs and cats coming out of anesthesia for this type of surgery is not so bad. Occasionally, there will be one animal that has a little harder time waking up, but that's where caring people such as you can truly be a wonderful asset. The animals respond well to a soothing voice, a gentle spirit and the knowledge that they are being cared for by someone who genuinely cares about them.

5. Thanks hamsterjill
There is a place called "planned pethood" just a couple of blocks from here. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow. Thanks for the info!

6. I understand exactly how you feel.
Even though I realize that feeling badly for the animals is not helping them, I can't seem to bring myself to volunteer at a shelter. I think it takes a stronger heart.

7. I know what you mean about a shelter, but is there a no-kill shelter
near you? You will not have to deal with the animals being put down.

But I think that the comfort of animals coming out of anesthesia would be a wonderful thing to do. You are helping animals, and you know they are in a good situation since the people are having them fixed.

Or if there are agencies that need people to foster animals in their homes while they are recuperating or getting healthy, you could consider this if you are not opposed to animals in the house.

There are so many little things that you can do to help the pet rescue agencies. Often, they have to do fundraisers, and you could help there too---not so much of a long term commitment, but still something that is needed.
