The Duggars: We're open to having a 20th child
(PEOPLE.com) -- Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have always been open about their willingness to have children. But when the devout Baptists and stars of TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" faced the catastrophic aftereffects of their 19th child's premature birth, many assumed they might be done.

But now the couple -- who only recently brought baby Josie home after being hospitalized for six months as she recovered from a perforated bowel and rare digestive problems -- say they are ready to consider a 20th child.

"Our family is stronger than ever," Jim Bob, 45, tells PEOPLE in its new issue. "We made it through the storm."

That's not to say that everything has been easy with baby Josie. Born early after Michelle developed preeclampsia (pregnancy-induced high blood pressure), Josie was just 8 days old when a perforated bowel threatened her life.

11. +10000000000
Selfish, stupid, wrong and destructive

One of the few cases where I think "there oughta be a law against it"

Something like you get 3 tax deductions for 3 kids, but after that you lose tax deductions for every kid after that, and end up having to pay for each kid in taxes

2. anything for ratings
the health of the mother won't stop them, the health of the child won't stop them, nothing matters to these folk but extending their 15 minutes of fame for doing what norway rat could do better

i really wish we'd stop giving publicity to people who spawn litters

3. Don't even get me started.
And cue the folks who think the Duggars should be able to have as many children as they want and it's not at all abusive to force their daughters into being unpaid nannies and housekeepers from the time they themselves can walk in 3...2...1...

5. Oh...Hell Yeah!.....wouldn't it be sooo cool if everybody had 19 kids.
Our employment rate could be 50 percent and the infrastructure could be totally in the toilet.

Selfish bastards...

I went to High School with a girl that had her uterus fall out because she had one kid right after the other. :wow:

i think you could still get pregnant but it would be dangerous -- notice the last child has had severe health issues...these folks don't care about the child's health or their own

she might have had the surgical repair before, but that's way TMI ...

18. Yes, it was
But, it was her fourth kid that it had to be stitched back in :scared: She then went on to have a set of twins by a guy that she met at her public aid office. I believe that she is still with him and after twenty years he still hasn't found a job laying carpet :wow:

20. I think the girls make all the clothes for the family.
Well, I guess it's cheaper than buying clothes for a brood that big, even if you went to the Evil Empire.

23. Bulk
Her kids make them? Poor things aren't allowed to buy material with flowers or any type of design on it. It kind of looks like they buy their clothes from a uniform store. Aren't they rich by now?

24. Interestingly, three generations ago on all sides of my family
everyone had 10+ children. Of their children, only one family had more than two or three children. And then the same happened with the next generation.

Four generations ago, one of my ancestors had 12 children and only two survived a cholera epidemic, one who was my g-g-grandfather.

I see no reason whatsoever to have that many children today.
