3. Babies need to be exposed to bacteria to build up antibodies.
I'm sure the baby will be fine.

4. My dear UndertheOcean...
That baby is on a baby blanket, that gets washed regularly...

And remember that exposure to dirt and the resulting microbes is a good thing. It helps the baby have a sturdy immune system...

Just sayin'...

13. So cute! and good for him!
When I was in nursing school I did a project writing and illustrating a pamphlet for a doctor's office
It showed how the normal curves in the cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower back) develop.
Letting babies be on the floor is essential. I think some babies probably spend too much time in baby carriers, baby swings, jumpers, etc.!

from an article about spinal development-
The spinal column has three distinct curves - the cervical, thoracic and lumbar curves. We are born with a C-shaped curve and the spinal curves develop in response to different gravitational stresses that affect the body as we grow. The first curve to develop is the cervical curve and it develops in response to the baby learning to lift it's head, sit and then crawl. The lumbar curve develops as the baby learns to stand and then walk near the end of the first year of life.

The thoracic curve is already there as part of the C-shaped curve we start out with. It is very important to let these curves develop naturally so that the baby will have a healthy spine. Encouraging a child to walk or stand too early in life (as seen in a "Jolly Jumper" apparatus) may put unnatural forces through an undeveloped spine.

An article by a a physical therapist-
Floor time play is essential for baby to develop the strength, balance and coordination he will need for motor skills and developmental milestones to progress. This should begin with supervised tummy time play in the first months of life to help baby develop strength by lifting his/her head followed by pushing up onto his/her forearms.
