15. Elvis howled on that one...
...he screws around at the beginning, but once he tears into the song, he's got that whole King thing going on...

This is from the "Live At The International Hotel" album...he was still riding high on his post-"68 Comeback Special" resurgence.

12. Jerry Garcia, in the spoken intro to "Johnny B. Goode" on the "Fillmore: The Last Days" album:
..."All right, folks, here's the one it's all about..."

Then he just SLAMS the hell out of the opening riff. It is truly a thing of beauty. It's a much tougher version than the better-known one on the "Skull & Roses" album.

21. The music is unparalleled, but I've always thought that the lyrics are kind of goofy
Credit where due, of course.

5. Those smilies are utterly fucking appropriate!!!!!!
.
.
.
My band was all original (we did do 3 covers -- two of them
fairly obscure).
.
.
.
We had a playlist that would give at least one person in the
band a break SOMEWHERE in the set -- and you could grab a
percussion instrument or go to the bathroom or get another
drink (). etc.
.
.
.
I would hide in the crowd and shout for "Freebird" LOUDLY
and enthusiastically (given what we did, totally ridiculous
and inappropriate).
.
.
.
I got away with it for MONTHS before somebody finally put
2+2 together and figured out just who that asshole out in
the crowd was.
.
.
.
Though I have to grudgingly agree... it IS probably THE rock
anthem of all rock anthems.
.

But then I gotta hear the Brothers "Southbound", and then G n f'n R "Down on the Farm" or "Dust 'n Bones" - what was the question again?.....

...but I think "Smoke on the Water" was Blackmore's first draft, and "Man on the Silver Mountain" was the finished product.

Amoeba can keep time to that chord. I can't play guitar, but I can play that riff. And that's just sad. ;)

22. I've been thinking about this off and on all day long.
I am torn; I have several nominees and cannot reduce it further.

The Beatles: A Hard Day's Night. Admit it: you know all the words and there's no need to go to youtube (but I linked it anyway); the song plays in your head with all three guitars and the drums following along. It's a great tune, and you can identify it by the very first note on George's guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZtlgsQIUKE

The Rolling Stones: Satisfaction. It takes five notes to identify Satisfaction, but once you hear them - dunh dunh, da duh duhn - the rest of the possibly perfect rock baseline continues in your head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGGFH75CYl4

The Ramones: Rock and Roll Radio. Don't you just want to crank it up every time you hear it? The Ramones had a handle on what rock and roll is or should be about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJizV-d3sEQ
