Today's earworm: "Jar of Hearts" (Who do you think you are?) - Christina PERRI
This song was playing on the radio in the convenience store:: a girl repeating the line, "And who do you think you are?" really emotionally with the catchy melody and intensity. When I got home I Googled "who do you think you are," and found tons of songs, mostly by the Spice Girls, none of them the right one. But Google is amazing, and finally there it was.

The song is titled "Jar of Hearts," although the tag line is "Who do you think you are?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH7WXlf9WLk (best link for sound; no video of her)

Her voice sounds thin and uneven on this debut on the CBS Morning Show (nobody watches that?): (video of her) http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6665721n Plus those tattoos are really trashy, but (nevermind).

She's 23, from Philadelphia, of Italian parent(s). She wrote the song in December, 2009. A friend of hers submitted a rough demo to the "So You Think You Can Dance" show and it got played in June(?). She was working in a cafe, had a bad day yelled at, and got the call it was selected. So now she's a hit.

Prior to this magical event, how was your morale?

It’s funny — I had kind of a rollercoaster ride since coming to L.A. I worked on some stuff, and that didn’t work out, so I was getting a little bit thin with my determination. And then I got married, and then I got divorced… it was just up and down, up and down. So I went home to Philadelphia in December, which is when I wrote the song, and I recharged my batteries, and said to my family, “Listen. I moved out to L.A. for a reason, and I’m gonna go back and try one more time.” And when I got back, I jumped right in. I realized that this was going to be my last try. ....

Did you quit your job yet?

Yeah. That was a great day.

It wasn't sheer luck. Besides being a great song on its own, Perri had a little help from a supportive friend and dancer who knows one of the show's choreographers.

Needless to say, "Jar of Hearts" was well-received and immediately passed on and pitched to the show's producers, who gave it the green light. A day later, it was being choreographed, and a week later, it was on TV for the first time.

Music is a common denominator in Perri family. Her brother is the former Shinedown (rock band) guitarist Nick Perri. Inspired by his musical endeavors, Christina had the chance to go on the road with the band and witness firsthand their rock n' roll rise to the top.

She also had an interesting venue to perform in in Philadelphia -- a barber shop owned by her parents.

Although the customers enjoyed her songs, Perri took a break from singing and touring with her brother and went to her father's native country of Italy. There, she spent three months with family and learned how to make wine and olive oil.

Jar Of Hearts lyrics
No I can't take one more step towards you
Cause all that's waiting is regret
And don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

And it took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I would have missed the first time that we kissed
Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

Who do you think you are
Who do you think you are
Who do you think you are
