Some of you know that my buddy jason was gay bashed years ago
He was kicked in the face multiple times while he was laying on the ground. They injured jason's brain and he had to have a plastic jaw surgically put in. This left jason disabled and he still hasn't recovered yet. A few months after he was just getting back to being able to function again, he got this condition that makes people very senstive to sound. There is a name for it, but I am not even going to try and spell it. It went away with treatment.

Last fall, jason's jaw developed a bone spur triggering a lot of pain. Pain pills didn't help. He had surgery to remove the spur and the operation only increased the pain in his jaw. About three months ago, his sound sensitivity came back. He can't talk on the phone, listen to music, play with his furbies, and can only watch TV with closed captioning. He is always wearing earplugs but he doesn't use them properly so the sound is still very hard on him.

Today, jason starts treatment for his sound sensitivety....what they do is they start an IV..knock jason out with drugs, then they shock him with electricty for about 15 minutes. After he wakes up, his short term memory is fried and he sleeps for the rest of the day. They are going to do this twice a week and see what happens. Does not sound like fun at all!

Edited on Mon Aug-16-10 11:41 AM by Roon
because they thought he is drug seeking. It wasn't until jason started showing up with full bottles of 40MG roxycontins that they realized he wasn't kidding around.

It makes me feel angry and sad reading about what happened to him, and the residual effects.
Have you seen this website? It has a lot of interesting information.

8. Sending good thoughts ,prayers, vibes ; whatever you, and others choose to call 'em, to Jason
Edited on Mon Aug-16-10 01:50 PM by abq e streeter
Sickening , just sickening, what happened to him. It's awful too of course that those who did this cowardly act got away with it, although I believe on some level, they have not or at least ultimately will not. I don't so much hope that something awful happens to them to "even the score " somehow; that does not help Jason , but that at some point, perhaps they will have some sort of awakening or revelation that will , if not cause them (or even one of them) to turn themselves in, but it may at least prevent this from happening to someone else. I apologize for my difficulty in articulating these thoughts. I post this in the profound shame ( which I have never talked about here before)of still being a recovering homophobe (although never in a million years would I have EVER thought of nor advocated, or applauded the type of vicious hate Jason had to live through). It was not learned from my family, who ,as dysfunctional as they are, at least have always been liberals, (sexuality, of any kind, was never really discussed in my home) but growing up in the 50's and 60's, homophobia was sort of just a given, and I do remember health class in junior high and being told to "stay away from queers". Anyway, this is a defect in my character I will deal with for the rest of my life, and it has been good that on DU ,I have interacted with, or just read the thoughts, opinions and feelings of gay people who have helped me so much in understanding , on a visceral level, our common humanity. The best I can say about the ever decreasing homophobia I still retain (and I am glad to say that it is still receding at a steady and rapid pace, but sadly, may always be there lurking somewhere deep down, but then again, maybe not, some day ), is that , unlike the right wing haters out there, I recognize that this is something that's wrong with me , as opposed to something that's wrong with my gay brothers and sisters.
May Jason's pain and suffering be relieved by his doctors and other healers, and I hope that this little insight into my own experience as someone brought up in a culture that feared and hated homosexuality, be accepted, embraced, (and forgiven) by you and others who read it, as a small sign of hope that people can open their eyes and hearts, and change into better, more loving, and accepting human beings. My wish, and prayer, is that this awakening happens to the people that did this unimaginable violence to Jason.

9. Add me to the list of well-wishers, Roon.
When I lived in NYC in the '70s, a friend and neighbor of mine was gay-bashed. He was a budding opera singer with a fine voice. After the attack, not so much. He had so many facial/sinus fractures, the tone of his voice was completely changed. Not to mention the pain and PTSD. He was a gentle man who would himself never wish such a thing upon anyone. It sucks.

Send my best to Jason and tell him some guy in Seattle is sending good vibes his way.

violence so I will not write what I think should be done to the people that did this to your friend.

I will say, I think they should have to walk around with a GIANT scarlett letter of some sort to identify them for what they are, scum sucking turtle shit bigoted asswipes, as well as what they did.

If there is a such thing as karma I hope these toad shit brainless asshats get a big dose.

I truly hope you friend's health improves and he is able to find peace. Please give him a hug from a stranger that cares.

I hope that the treatment works. Sometimes medical marvels can do so much to relieve suffering, sometimes - eh, not so much. Sounds like he's getting the best help that there is, and I hope that he is also getting the treatment for PTSD, not just the meds, but also therapy as well.

You're a good friend. Bless both your hearts. :)

That is some serious pain if a maximum daily dose of roxycontin doesn't give you relief. I told him to ask his pain doctor about fenatyle or morphine pills at least. He needs it, badly.

but jason is a real trouper. Luckily he does have a high tolerance for pain. When his pain gets REALLY bad he starts to shake and can't even pour himself a cup of coffee. It's horrible. But when I see him I put on my happy face and maintain a positive attitude. I really wish I could just go ahead and cry,but I need to be strong for jason and keep him going.

We text, talk on the internet and stay in contact all day. We both have chronic health issues and we just help each other out. I love this guy!!!!!
