Another dumb hummingbird photo
I take photos of things that either don't move (flowers) or things that move real fast (hummingbirds). Today a hummingbird showed up when I had the camera out and the light didn't super suck.

11. Awesome photo
I guess we have three rufouses at the cabin this year, but there are so many ruby throats they don't even try to take over a feeder.

12. We have Anna's hummingbirds here year 'round
They're not shy about telling me to refill the feeder or complain the fuchsias aren't blooming fast enough!

20. Bird swearing
Actually, they fly up to me and hover about 5 inches from my nose and then they do the bird swearing; them go to the empty feeder and back to my face a few times.

I love how you got him with one wing almost appearing stopped, and the other is in motion so fast, all it is is a blur. Cool.

I take part of that back. Bith wings are in motion, obviously, but the right one seems to have been frozen in time. It's one of the scads of reasons I love photography--it has the ability to stop real life in the blink of an eye.

21. Wow-that's greatl!
The way the tail is spread out to counter the effect of the wing action - fantastic photo.

P.S. I think your hummingbird feeder looks like the kind I've been searching for! I've had two that are pretty difficult to clean due to mold in all the nooks and crannies after a few warm days.
May I ask what brand it is?

22. It's a Perky Pet I got at Orchard Supply Hardward
The body posture is a defensive one they take when feeding when other birds are around or they think they might be around (I learned this from hummingbird web sites!).

The feeder is a little one and is stuck in an orchid:

(all the plants in the photo are orchids)
