Need good vibes for my feline buddy...
Stumpy showed up on my deck 8 years ago on a cold sleety night with a broken femur. (Hence, his name) I fixed a makeshift shelter, and ordered him to find his way back home before morning.

Well; he didn't. And after spending several hundred dollars on him, no way was I gonna let him back out.

I had scheduled a dental visit this week, and the vet did the pre-op blood work. He's sick, and even she is not sure what is going on. His red blood count is very low, but there are no other symptoms. Liver, lungs, kidney, heart, WBC...all good. He has lost a couple pounds in the last 24 months. Not unexpected in a kitty his age (We suspect he is 10+ years old, no way to know for sure.) He has lost some muscle mass, also not unusual.

They are running additional tests to determine whether or not his body is even trying to rejuvenate red blood cell growth.

The weird thing here is that he doesn't even act sick. He was having trouble chewing his food, which is why I called the vet in the first place.

My husband, who doesn't even like cats; was the one who decided we couldn't leave him to suffer that way all those years ago. He then joined the 5 kitties we had rescued.

We love him dearly...such a sweet lap buddy now. I think even the hubby will miss him if he leaves us.

9. Good vibes for Stumpy!
Could just be old age...as long as he isn't in pain, hopefully it's just signs of the eventual slowing down.

15. Sounds like what my kitty had
She had an auto immune disorder- her cells were fighting each other. She was on steroids for nearly a year- they did wonders for her. Good vibes for Stumpy!

17. Update on Stumpy:
Blood test shows "mildly positive" for FIV. We are still waiting for results from another lab testing to see if his body is trying to make new red blood cells.

I don't know if a mildly positive FIV report would result in the anemia he has. The normal red blood cell count for cats is 29-50. He is either at 23 or 26...can't remember. I haven't spoken to the vet as she was out of the office today, so I don't know what we will be doing next.
The good news is that he continues to eat and drink normally. Thanks for all the positive vibes...keep them coming! :pals:

19. vibes for Stumpy....
I hope the vet can figure out what is wrong, and that it is minor. If not, whatever you decide to do, sounds like Stumpy has been well loved.
