3. Hell, I could have probably cleaned up designing those
I've worked as an artist for Disney for 21 years and did quite a few character designs for them and for other studios. But I'm still confounded by the whole furry phenomenon. It didn't appear to exist 20+ years ago, so what was the whole genesis of it?

25. Ok...
Furrys began when humans bgan, as shown by cave drawings of a (shaman?) that is half-human, half-deer.
Or it was a drawing of someone wearing a deer mask.

Ancient Egyptian deities were humans with animal heads.
Anubis had a jackal head.

In the modern world, just look at all the animal characters with human characterisitics.
Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse are great examples.

Those same cartoon characters used sex appeal, on countless occasions.
Some cartoon characters were created just to sexually appeal to guys.
In the "Animaniacs" cartoon show, Minerva Mink was knock-em-dead sexy, and she knew it.
http://www.furvert.net/MinervaMink/

A few furry comic books could be funny, or downright porn.
(Look up "Omaha The Cat Dancer.")

Furrys are a diverse group, from the bizarre to the "you'd never know they were furrys unless you asked" types.
Most furrys enjoy good art.
Others get kinky, with having sex in animal costumes.

Myself, I enjoy good pin-up art of furry females.
Go to the web site "Fur Affinity," lots of artists and art there.

30. the concept of furry originated at a science fiction convention in 1980
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom

-snip-

According to fandom historian Fred Patten, the concept of furry originated at a science fiction convention in 1980,<4> when a character drawing from Steve Gallacci’s Albedo Anthropomorphics started a discussion of anthropomorphic characters in science fiction novels. This led to the formation of a discussion group that met at science fiction and comics conventions. Patten defined "Furry fandom" as "the organized appreciation and dissemination of art and prose regarding 'Furries', or fictional mammalian anthropomorphic characters."

The specific term "Furry fandom" was being used in fanzines as early as 1983, and had become the standard name for the genre by the mid-1990s.<5> However, fans consider the origins of furry fandom to be much earlier, with fictional works such as Kimba, The White Lion released in 1965, Richard Adams' novel Watership Down, published in 1972 (and its 1978 film adaptation), as well as Disney's Robin Hood as oft-cited examples.<4> To distinguish these personae from seriously depicted animal characters, such as Lassie or Old Yeller, cartoon animals are referred to as funny animals,<6> a term that came into use in the 1910s.

During the 1980s, furry fans began to publish fanzines, developing a diverse social group that eventually began to schedule social gatherings. By 1987, there was sufficient interest to stage the first furry convention.<7> Throughout the next decade, the Internet became accessible to the general population and became the most popular means for furry fans to socialize.<8> The newsgroup alt.fan.furry was created in November 1990, and virtual environments such as MUCKs also became popular places on the Internet for fans to meet and communicate.<9>

Historically, furry fandom has been male-dominated, but over time the proportion of females in the fandom—especially artists—has increased, approaching equality with males on furry art galleries.<8>

6. Bad ink job, IMHO.
Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 04:26 PM by Call Me Wesley
Background clashes with the colors of the figure, and the dark brown/black (hard to tell) as well as the dark blue erased the details in the original sketch.

But I like the 'O-O-O' in the background. Reminds me of this one I did, although there's no fursona in it it, just a cgi character:

On edit: You saw it, so I got rid of it, since it's not dial-up safe.

that's good. Are the forelimbs supposed to be covered in gloves and boots or is that representing a color change to the fur?

The clothing depiction is what I don't like. It looks like Studio-54-meets-hooker.

Anyway, it's pretty good.

39. It's okay.
The fashion is a bit dated.

The upper body seems thinner than the lower body, so the proportions seem a bit off.

The human hair seems to clash a bit with the overall appearance.

Overall it looks pretty good. I think you can spruce this up and do better. But overall I think it is definitely pretty good.
