Why can't TV and the movies get explosions right?

Just saw the climax of a "The Closer" episode, nutcase kid setting off pipe bombs.

Now I've seen pipe bombs go off.

They do not go off like the one in "The Closer" did, a big fireball.
Those are gasoline bombs.

1. Yeah, and I've never seen a fart lit properly in a movie.

Actually, now that I think about it, I've never even SEEN a fart lit in a movie. I've seen plenty of them at parties - well, 30 years or so ago that is.

2. gasoline bombs are more fun.

probably also cheaper and easier to set up for the sfx guys.

It's like sound effects in space. Sure, you could just not produce any sound effects for the space ship zooming past the camera. But where's the fun in that?

3. My fave is the force field

that seems to protect hero from any blast wave. Big ass explosion not that far behind our boy and he keeps walking or running without his clothes or hair even being ruffled.

The guy wrongly put in the bad situation does not even get singed, but the guards get burnt.

4. Notice how anyone not directly engulfed in the fireball are totally uninjured

And nothing is ever fired out.

6. I like cars that blow sky-high when they hit something

or hand-grenades that demolish a truck or a building.

Colt 45's that shoot without reloading.

Best of all, I like that Jack Bauer's cell phone battery never goes dead.

Movies.

Well, I really did enjoy all the blood in Kill Bill 1.
