Poll question: Who is your favorite reggae group/artist
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 08:47 PM by ChavezSpeakstheTruth
I'm talking 'bout roots reggae right now!

BTW - I vote other: The Congoes, man. Heart of the Congoes is my favorite Lee "Scratch" Perry disc.

6. I voted Black Uhuru, but I'd want to add...
Classic roots:
The Mighty Diamonds
Augustus Pablo
Jimmy Cliff (I can't believe you didn't list Jimmy Cliff!)
Toots and the Maytals (I can't believe you didn't list Toots and the Maytals!)

and then more recent roots:
Sizzla
Capleton
and a whole peck of Marley kids. All sorts of them I hadn't known of before.

11. I voted for Marley
but I'm really feeling Sean Paul right now be he's like a hip hop/rap/dance groove but he still has the reggae bouncing so I guess he counts

19. steel pulse/early third world
extended version of steel pulse's "reaching out" is about the best dance song in reggae.

third world's "arise" & "96 degrees in the shade" albums are as sweet as any reggae ever recorded...

but best lp? jimmy cliff's "I am the living"......never released on cd to my knowledge, but its the best out there.

21. '96 degrees in the shade' was my favorite album for a long time
In addition to 'Arise', I like a lot of their stuff on 'All The Way Strong' too, in sort of an Intergalactic Funk sort of way:

Special announcement to the Universe
A love mission
Intergalactic
Your mission is the preservation of creation
Special request to the observation
Love's stronger than a mutual

Dread I reporting to special mission Love
Leader 1
Come in. Love Leader 1

Observer 1 reporting
Alien state, find war machinery
Evil walking, overtake the city
My scanner picks up vibes coming from another
place
Evil cabal in my space

No matter what creed, no matter what race
Soldiers,...
All across this planet
The only peaceful place, hmmmm
Reggae...
