1. I only know of one poster who does that all the time

MiddleFingerMom. Usually, when I see someone else do it it is in jest; most of the time friendly, sometimes not so friendly. I don't know why he likes to do that, but it doesn't bother me. It makes him distinct and easy to remember.

3. GREAT post!1 I think the o.p. is playing, but it IS irritating to spend real effort

on a thread and to have the first/keynote post, the one that makes or breaks a thread, to be TOTALLY off topic in griping about some stylistic feature. Like, the one(s) (grouping them into ONE) I get gigged for is, "If you wouldn't use '!1' or all caps RANDOMLY or cutesy nicknames (put downs of Rethugs, like Shrub/LIMBOsevic)---you might be TAKEN MORE SERIESLY!1"

Sometimes I explain that it is a hassle to use the HTML codes for Bold and such and the all caps is for EMPHASIS and if somebody read the post aloud the caps would give a Regis-type CLUE to the delivery, NOT "random"----or, that I use all caps for SURNAMES, the way it was in the Navy. Or, I just FUME. Or, I mock at somebody's believing in BEING TAKEN SERIESLY on an internet discussion board. Or, I ask them to put me on Ignore.

The following aren't excuses, or even defenses (self-expression really
needs no defense)... but, as a consideration to some of those confused
and/or irritated by my style, at least SOME of the reasons behind why
I do what I do (not in any particular order).

1. Individuality. It does make me different -- helps visually make me
immediately identifiable as "MiddleFingerMom". I've pretty much always
been that way without trying to make a big deal about it. Many of my
generational peers were like that, but now I get the biggest (while at
the same time, saddest) kick out of hearing them say, "Look at that kid
and his/her hair. What's the MATTER with them?" I always gently tease/scold
them that they have become their parents -- and not necessarily in a
good way. I really LIKE younger (ah, instead of saying young, I cling to
the healthy fantasy of "younger" :rofl:) people who look just plain WEIRD --
to one extent or another. That's their JOB. I worry about the kids who DON'T
do weird things -- I worry that later they will be settled down with the job
and the kids and the mortgage and realize that they never took time to be
completely themselve... to run wild and free and amok when they "could".

2. Conversational/emphasis spacing. Sometimes, for dramatic pauses of
varying lengths between paragraphs to help identify what I think I would
be using if I were actually "speaking" to all of you (and I really do feel like
I am "speaking" to and with you).

3. Easier to digest. Little snippets are MUCH easier to digest/bear/stick with
than one long, long, long cluster of words. Just last night, I was reading one
of those posts and, although it was interesting, the words and lines started
to run together and I moved on. Maybe a sign of our cultural ADHD... maybe
just a sign of needing to move on to something easier/better/different that
I'm delayed in reaching. BTW, if scrolling for dots is THAT big a "delay", you
may want to think about how insistent on not just immediate... but IMMEDIATE
gratification the Intertubes is modifying your behavior towards (ACH... ended
that with a preposition, but screw it... call me grammar outlaw).

4. Timing. My FAVORITE... and one explained to ME more clearly by someone
in this Lounge). The following says it all. "Wait for it... ... ... WAIT FOR IT!!!"
I think it makes some of the humor I'm at least ATTEMPTING to provide much
funnier, when there's some, as so well-put before, an-ti-ci-................

spectrum of opinion/feeling about it. And no one is stifling/censoring the personal
expression of anyone else.

The whole point of the period after each word was to show that the words individually were a statement, and the whole sentence was a statement. Like, Wrangler Jeans uses it in their slogan "Real. Comfortable. Jeans." Not commenting on the jeans, but it's a good slogan--each word has its own meaning that could be missed without the periods, and the whole has a meaning. But most people just thought it was shiny and used it for emphasis.
