Heaven got a new puppy today.
I held him for my Mom while the vet gave him the shot to put him down. He was an old timer, and he was in a lot of pain. He had been Mom's constant companion for 11 years or so. He will be missed.

2. My dear dawg...
I'm so sorry for your loss, and your Mom's.

It is a hard place to be, but by letting him go, you did the right thing.

He is free of suffering now...

it must affect them somewhat. Thank goodness they are there to help at times like this.

16. So sorry to hear that.
I'll bet he's now in Dog Heaven, which is also known as Cat Hell. I thought that was hilarious when I first heard it.

I always imagine that dogs that have passed are now chasing butterflies. When they catch 'em, they give 'em a big smooch and then set 'em free.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

i am so sorry for your loss

23. Dude, I know it's ridiculled, but I do believe you, and your mom, will see him again.
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 12:57 AM by Skip Intro

I've lost many dogs, and a couple of cats, to old age and at a seemingly young age. God, I loved them all. My last cat, I have a new one now I adore and I'm trying to get her to adore me, but my last cat, God, he took a piece of me when he left. I cherished that animal like a family member, my closest family member. I still have pics of him around the house. I have no doubt that I'll see him again. And you know, if that is some fanciful believe I cling to to give me comfort, then so be it. I touched his soul and he touched mine. It's not something I cling to, but more something I know.

I'm sorry for your loss. They don't have the lifespans we have. It's something that happens. By your post I can tell there was and is a love for that dog. I don't want to cloud your thoughts with fantasy, but I do believe, deeply, that we'll all see each other again, on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

27. That is so sad.
But the thing that would give me peace is taht he knew how much you guys loved him. You were the last thing he felt and saw when he went to heaven. We have a senior Cocker Spaniel we've been fostering, and I know the day is coming when we're going to have to do what you did. My face is going to be the last thing he sees before he goes to heaven. My face crying and telling him how much I love him. He's a good old boy. We've only had him for a year, he is very much my baby boy.
My heart goes out to you and your mom. I hope she will get another dog. These kids aren't replaceable, but I don't know what I'd do without them.
Duckie

I had a vision when my first was put down. At the end of life in this world she was deaf, nearly blind, and finally suffering seizures because of brain cancer. The second that her soul left her body I saw her as a lanky puppy again. Finally freed from a body that was failing her, bounding happily and painlessly through tall grass.

And what sticks with me is that she was not running away from me or toward me but rather, parallel. Our paths will meet again soon enough.
