I need some help with an Aircraft flight (Reasoning)
I'm flying to Sydney, Australia Oct 20.
I'm non-stop from LA to Sydney (plane stop in LA for fuel) "NO plane change"
The Plane is a Boeing 757 WTF! 757's have a range of about 7000 Kilometers.
It's 13000 Plus to Australia !!

WTF!..Am I just going to be dumped off halfway there?? (OK..I know I'm not but what the hell is going on. :)

Arrive: 07:10am
Arrives Fri, Oct 22
Chicago, IL (ORD) to
Sydney, NS Australia (SYD)

1. Well, the possibilities are as follows:
Perhaps the planes have a greater range.
Perhaps the distance is shorter (fly through a spatial warp) than you think.
Perhaps the plane does indeed stop in Hawaii or somewhere. Just because there's "no plane change" doesn't make it nonstop.

3. No the 757's Maximum is 7222 kilometers. If it stops in Hawaii, it's still to long a trip.
...Now this "Spatial warp thing" just might work. :)

2. Some medical advice: Get up and walk up and down the aisles every now and then.
Should help prevent deep-vein thrombosis, which can lead to pulmonary embolism.

I'm just sayin'...

4. I appreciate that but from the look of things, I'm going to be swimming.

6. Well then, with swimming, there's very little risk of venous stasis.
It's all good... ;-)

5. There might be a mistake on your reservation.
United operates a 747-400 on that flight.

7. Ah...That might explain it. I couldn't understand why a twin jet would be flying all the way..
...across the Pacific.

9. Not a 757-200, that's for sure.
There are some trans-Atlantic flights that some 757s can handle - they have extended range and ETOPS certification -- but sure as heck not LAX-SYD.

10. Yep, that flight is a 757 ORD -> LAX then a 747 from LAX -> SYD
Same flight number, but there is a plane change.

11. It's probably a "change of gauge" flight
That means, it stops but changes equipment.

12. Hmmmm
I've only recently flown 2 trans-Atlantic flights - well, three Midwest flights and a flight to SF also. All this last summer and fall.

It helps to have the neat little personal entertainment system installed, such as the one that Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Air Canada, Air France, and others provide. I don't always use it, but in a pinch, when hit with insomnia, they come in handy. I got to be a huge fan of "Dexter" this way, flying back from Dublin this past weekend.

Ear plugs, also help. Drink lots of water. When they turn the lights out on the flight, take the cue, and try to sleep. If you can't - and I never can - go with the personal light - and read till ya sleep.

Best of luck. I was SO freakin glad to get home!!
