Do you ever laugh at nothing at all? Sometimes I find myself chuckling for reasons I'm at a loss to explain. I just laugh. Sometimes it's a belly laugh that just builds until I'm gasping for breath, wheezing, and have tears running down my cheeks. Other times it's just a chuckle. It can happen with friends, my wife, or just when I'm alone.
I'm not the kind of person who could "laugh at a schoolbus crash", but sometimes the strangest things can set me off. I can't explain why, it just happens. I'd say that at least once a month I have a laughing fit that leaves me breathless.
On the other hand, sometimes a simple lyric in a song or a guitar riff or a line of dialogue in a movie or even a fucking COMMERCIAL can cause a hitch in my breath, and bring a tear to my eye. Commercials do that to me sometimes. My wife thinks there's something different about how my brain is wired than most other people. She's pretty patient with me though, as sometimes my laughing fits have happened in the middle of disagreements we've had. Nasty words, angry recriminations, and then suddenly the argument is impossible to resolve because out of nowhere I get the laugh. When the laughing ends, there still needs to be a resolution to whatever disagreement we've had. That's not always possible when I've laughed at whatever our disagreement was about. I can't hold a grudge, she can.
I should add that in my 49 years, I've NEVER had a headache. I've had hangovers, but those aren't headaches. I cannot for the life of me relate to a situation my friends have found themselves in, where they say: "I'm getting a headache".
NO headaches, EVER. Laughing fits that leave me breathless, that can happen even in the middle of a heated discussion with either friends or family. Heartburn? What's that? Never felt it.
My ex-Wife once said that I'm the way I am because I don't care about anything. If that were the case, why would I get teary over freaking COMMERCIALS?
So the question still stands: Do you ever just LAUGH?
