1. Though I lived on the Kentucky/Tennessee border for four years...
.
.
.
...I had never heard of the combination of chicken & waffles until
about 5 years ago -- and still have trouble understanding that
connection.
.
This menu offers steak & waffles, too -- I can understand (but
have almost never ordered) steak & eggs, but I can't make THAT
connection, either.
.
.
.
I LOVE waffles, but I guess I'm just waffle-ignant -- never could
understand Belgian waffles until I had some really GOOD ones.
.

2. I myself have not tried the waffle/chicken combo
Not a big fan of waffles by themselves anyway. But I wouldn't doubt that Amy Ruth's would handle this delicacy masterfully. The regulars swear by it.

5. So have you?
Don't you live in Atlanta or somewhere where they invented soul food?

3. Believe it or not, chicken and waffles are big in the Bay Area, too
in spots like Oakland and SF's Bayview district. Oakland even boasts a "House of Chicken and Waffles"!

9. Chicken and waffles is an old American food that was killed off by hamburgers.
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 02:01 PM by old mark
It was very popular from well before the depression til the early 1960's-my grandmother and my mom both made great chicken and waffles.
The batter for the waffles was not very sweet, and the chicken was in small pieces in a cream gravy...my mom added mushrooms to it. It was a fine way to stretch leftover chicken to feed the family one more time, and it is really very good.
Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

6. I love Chef Hicks' nouveau soul creations.
Including his chicken and waffles.."Special seasoned fried chicken and homemade Belgium waffle with cinnamon infused butter & fresh berry compote. Served with sweet potato pomme frites & our signature collard greens."

10. One of each, thank you.
I'm whiter than a mayonnaise on Wonder bread sandwich, but I love me some soul food.
