What new shows are you guys enjoying?
I've been watching The Whole Truth, mainly because I like Maura Tierney...

Also, I really like Outlaw. I read they halted production, so it will probably get cancelled.

I can't imagine it being cheaper to abandon a show than just to let it finish the season, but what do I know.

Raising Hope is pretty funny.

I've also discovered Life Unexpected which is not new, but I didn't watch the first season.

What say you guys about the fall lineup?

1. Boardwalk Empire on HBO
It's pretty violent tho.

I was watching Lone Star, but that was cancelled after just two episodes. Only 4 million people were watching it so they pulled the plug despite four more episodes already filmed.

Edited on Mon Oct-11-10 11:15 AM by Iggo
Just heard about it Friday and caught an episode I think on Saturday. Had to use the captions 'cause it's made for Brits, not Yanks, and there's a ton of slang. But thoroughly enjoyable. Contrast it with Law & Order: Los Angeles. Now that one is crap.

And I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My wife however had a hard time understanding all the accents. I had to translate and rewind a few times, but she managed in the end.

6. Honestly, only one
The Event. Just out of curiosity, and because I had FlashForward unceremoniously ripped away from me at the end of last season. :( It's an okay substitute so far.

I hate to say it, but I'm wrapped up in so many returning shows that I don't have any more time to invest in new ones. Does that sound completely pathetic or what? :P

7. The Good Guys.
Bradley Whitford is fantastic. A character more different from Josh Lyman of 'The West Wing' could scarcely be imagined.

"Spicy!!! Spicy in m'eyes!!!"

"Ah ayam commando-ing this vehicle!"

And Colin Hanks is great. A young carbon copy of his father. Very appealing.

And Jenny Wade......oh, MERCY!

36. I agree. I want all of the TWW actors to be their characters forever.
It takes some adjusting, even three years after the show ended.

Bradley Whitford on 'The Good Guys.'

Dule Hill as Gus on 'Psych'.

Martin Sheen is doing radio commercials for Jiffy Lube, for Pete's sake. I figured with his haul from seven seasons of TWW, he wouldn't have to do that sort of thing again...

37. That's not all
how about Allison Janney as the mom in Juno (or the mom in Hairspray for that matter)- completely the antithesis of her WW character

or Rob Lowe in any of the failed shows he's been in since leaving TWW. I also think he was in the saccharine-sweet movie 'The Christmas Shoes'.

I caught Josh Malina in an episode of House last season - that was pretty good.

32. The Good Wife is a PHENOMENAL show.
Way different than you would think. Julianna Marguiles is not only beautiful but a great actress. I loved her on ER back in the day. Now they need a George Clooney cameo to make it complete :) (Hey if they can get Lou Dobbs....)

Also I'm liking the guy that plays Will Gardner (can't remember his name - he was also in the SWAT movie)

13. Terriers is the best new show this fall, IMO
Sadly, the ratings are pretty abysmal. It's on Wednesdays on FX -- and the first 4 episodes are on Hulu if you want to get caught up.

It's about a dishonorably discharged cop and a former thief who have started a very low-rent detective "agency". Sounds a little cliche, but the dialogue is superb -- witty, smart, engaging, poignant by turns. I highly recommend it!

Well produced and all that, but it doesn't grab me. Maybe it's because it doesn't have any good-looking men in it??? Steve Buscemi does not qualify on that count.

The Big C is interesting & funny. Watched it last night.

They are not running Wife Swap on Friday nights anymore. (I had a much ruder name for it that started with Trade-A-F***).

26. Detroit 187 is the only one so far.
The new sitcoms are terrible. Shit my Dad Says, Better With you, Mike and Molly...fucking AWFUL.

I watched one episode of Hawaii Five O and see why right wingers would like it (balls-to-the-wall law enforcement with no accountability), but it's not my speed.

I refuse to watch L&O LA because of the disrespectful way the original was axed with almost no warning. A show that's kept a lot of us entertained for 20 years deserved better.

Nope, Detroit 187 is the only one so far.

40. No loss there.
Did you by any chance see an episode? Aside from the writing being run-of-the-mill comedy at best, I've rarely seen a show so poorly cast. Other than the main character's father, who was hilarious (familiar actor, too, but can't remember his name) they got it all wrong.

Shatner is perfect for his role, but the writing isn't funny at all. Like "Better With You," I gave it too episodes and gave up. Same with Mike and Molly, which is a shame - Mike and his cop partner are actually pretty funny, but nobody else is.

42. Yeah, I watched the first two episodes.
The comedy was very strained, to say the least. It was, for the most part contrived - in other words, they worked to hard to set up the funny. The dad character I remember from the Wayne's World movie.... he was the producer of Wayne and Garth's show after Rob Lowe's character bought it.

"But you didn't say two or one"

"Oh, you don't say two or one"

"Why not?"

"You just don't.... mmmmmkay?"

I had completely forgotten about him in Wayne's World. I only remember him as a sheriff in a CSI episode and as the obnoxious son of an old lady in the clinic on an episode of House.

In any case, he was the only one I saw with any funny lines. The only other upside to the show is that the main character, Maddie (the pregnant one going out with the idiot) is cute as hell, but hot girls I'll never meet aren't enough to keep me watching a boring show.

It is new to me plus I don't watch any shows except for re-runs of King of Queens, Raymond, Simpsons, That 70's Show and sometimes My Name is Earl. I watch the episodes of Curb on TV Guide channel and I must say it is really, really good. I can't believe I refused to watch the show the entire time I had HBO. The ads really didn't do it justice I think. Oh well, at least I get to catch them on TV Guide. WGN and some other channel cuts Curb so much to fit 30 minutes and commercials that it is unwatchable.
