Poll question: Obi-wan Kenobi: full of shit or no?
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 12:10 PM by Deep13
Remember when Luke confront's Obi-wan's hologram and asks why Kenobi said Vader betrayed and murdered Luke's father when Vader IS Luke's father? Obi-wan says, what he said was true from a certain point of view.

Was Kenobi justified in telling the betrayal/murder story or was he just full of shit?

13. Senility?
Jedi Mind Wipe so if Obi-Wan were captured, he wouldn't spill the beans on both of them.

My question, though, how come Darth Vader never sensed that the Force was strong in Leia? They had some scenes together in Star Wars - A New Hope.

The Phantom Menace ruined the perception of The Force as a mystical god-like presence by boiling it down to mitichlorian counts.

17. I think with all three prequels
There is a lot of suck mixed in with some cool effects and cool scenes. Episode 1 was heavily weighted towards the suck, Episode 2 was about 50-50 suck/cool and Episode 3 was mostly cool with pieces of epic suckitude.

24. yeah, but I really think the 1,2, and 3 really put 4,5 and 6 in perspective
You can see more of the story arc and it really makes what occurs even sadder. We recently watched them in order a while back over a few days, and I felt much more sympathy for Anakin than I ever did when watching 4-6.

8. It's an interesting question.
If, as Luke is leaving to confront Vader, he tells Luke the truth, then there's a good chance that Vader will find out too. But then, as it turned out, Vader already knew. Did Ben know that Vader knew who Luke was? Did the Emperor know what Vader wanted to do with Luke? Will Jessica forgive Chester and take him back? Confused? You won't be after this week's episode of ... SOAP.

good one - the ghost Obi-Wan was all trickery then! Probably implanted a chip in Luke's head & sent him messages at key times.

28. But who killed the David Prowse Darth Vader?
Actually, the word on the street is that Lucas did when he realized after he finished filming that there were apparently no Black people in the Star Wars universe. Since it was too late to correct the error on the film, he changed Vader's voice to James Earl Jones.

tion of what he was thinking while he was writing them, and his emphasis on the concept of the hero's journey, as well as different film perspectives based on films he had seen in film school. I had a lot more respect for him as a film-maker and plotter after I had seen those. The interview with Joseph Campbell was particularly interesting, I thought.

29. You have no frame of reference here.
You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know why characters from another galaxy far, far away with a weird-ass religion they can't even agree on have views of morality and honesty and identity you don't intuitively grasp. Lucas didn't make this stuff up, he just reported what they really said.

You're out of your element, Donny.

My frame of reference is the movie!

And I'm pretty sure I have both an intuitive and intellectual grasp of morality, honesty and identity.

Lucas hadn't originally intended for Vader to be Luke & Leia's father (they weren't brother & sister either).

The films were constantly rewritten as they went on & those rewrites didn't always make sense (like Ben apparently lying to Luke about his father). In the original script for Empire, Luke would have actually met up with his real father on his way to become a jedi.

The whole Ewok thing in RotJ was a marketing stunt, they'd originally had the Wookiee homeworld in mind as the construction base for the second death star (makes far more sense since the Wookiees were supposed to be being used as slave labour by the Empire) and instead of plucky little Ewoks killing Imperial troops, there would have been a full scale Wookiee rebellion. But Wookiees weren't as marketable as Ewoks so we got the kid's toys instead of a film that makes sense.

So Kenobi wasn't lying, George Lucas is just a crap writer who can't keep his own story together.
