Alien prequel in the works - Ridley Scott to direct
Natalie Portman may star in the movie...

>>>
A prequel to Ridley Scott's Alien film franchise is in the works and may reportedly star Natalie Portman or Noomi Rapace and be based on a screenplay by LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof.

Lindelof turned in a draft of the script to 20th Century Fox recently, Vulture reported, adding that the film is set about 35 years before the time depicted in the 1979 film Alien, which starred Sigourney Weaver. The studio and Lindelof have not commented publicly.

Natalie Portman and Noomi Rapace, who is earning Oscar buzz due to her role in the 2009 Swedish film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, are among the actresses who have met with Scott about possibly playing the lead role of a Colonial Marine general, Vulture said. Other contenders include Carey Mulligan and Abbie Cornish of the 2006 movie A Good Year.
Preliminary casting lists show the movie is set to be released in 2012.

1. that doesn't work in the timeline
Ripley was the first to report contact with the aliens. So all the Marines will have to die.

I guess they could retcon it to fit. The Marines work for some other entity than The Company, so supposedly they may know about the aliens and just not tell The Company.

2. Not sure how they will work it
Obviously, the Paul Reiser slimebag character knew something about the aliens and was trying to see if they were of value to the company? Maybe they were a genetic experiment by The Company gone awry?

3. There was the android from Alien, Ash. And the Company clearly knew something.

Ash the android clearly knew something - his job was to enforce the Company line. Actually, he knew a lot. And the company knew a lot, when it sent the order "Bring back life form. Priority One. All other priorities rescinded." The suits back in the Company's HQ really wanted a specimen, so they sent the orders to the Nostromo.

4. Yes, they had an inkling, but not completely sure of what.
That's why the Nostromo dropped out of drive, awakened the crew from stasis, to respond to a unspecified hail.

The Company was looking.

5. Ash had a good idea.
He referred to the alien as the "perfect organism", "its structural perfection matched only by its hostility."
