2. Maybe the combination of no hair nets and tattoos on these tv cooking shows that make me leary.

3. Not unsanitary, but my general reaction is that the more covered up a person is
the more sanitary of a chef they are. So, if I can see tattoos it's more likely to mean they're wearing short sleeves and therefore my instinct would be that they're not as sanitary as they could be. (Not saying my 'hide the skin' reaction is rational, mind you, just that that's how I respond...)

5. No. But chefs who smoke, and that seems to be an industry standard,
is unfathomable to me.

Don't care whether they have inked skin though, since it doesn't influence the food.

15. Yeah, I do not understand that. They rhapsodize about the tiniest, subtlest differences in
flavor between vegetables from different farms, or meat from different ranches, or spices from different places in the world. And then they fuck up their sense of taste and sense of smell with cigarettes (not to mention their health). It makes no sense to me at all.

31. I know a few chefs and they are definitely not bullshitting. But I do remind them

that their highly developed senses are not going to survive a pack a day habit.

16. If it did I could probably never go out to eat because it sure seems like 90% of
all chefs are inked up. Good thing it doesn't bother me.

17. Not at all. The ink is under the skin not on it.
BTW ~ Anyone who has a tat needs to keep it clean while it is healing and moisturize it after the healing process is completed.

 Therefore a tattooed chef may be cleaner than a non-tattooed chef.

If you come to the Pacific NW, you will see that most people under 40 in the cities are tattooed. Educated people and un. Blue collar and white collar. Everywhere. In most eating establishments, tho, help must wear long sleeves to cover the tats.

29. There were tattooed chefs on "Top Chef."
If the producers of the show thought they were "unsanitary," they wouldn't have been on the show.

And Michael Voltaggio, who won season six, had tattoos all over his arms.
