Split Enz - Six Months In A Leaky Boat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ar7DgREshAk

When I was a young boy
I wanted to sail around the world
That's the life for me, living on the sea
Spirit of a sailor, circumnavigates the globe
The lust of a pioneer, will acknowledge
No frontier
I remember you by, thunderclap in the sky
Lightning flash, tempers flare
'Round the horn if you dare
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Lucky just to keep afloat

Aotearoa, rugged individual
Glisten like a pearl
At the bottom of the world
The tyranny of distance
Didn't stop the cavalier
So why should it stop me
I'll conquer and stay free
Ah c'mon all you lads
Let's forget and forgive
There's a world to explore
Tales to tell back on shore
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Six months in a leaky boat

Ship-wrecked love can be cruel
Don't be fooled by her kind
There's a wind in my sails
Will protect and prevail
I just spent six months in a leaky boat
Nothing to it leaky boat

2. They had some excellent tunes.
For example: One step ahead of you - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NduGJ0F5sdI

3. Message to My Girl
Thanks fro bringing this up. An oft overlooked band, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLCL58veKUo">this is one of my favorite tunes by them.

It also reminded me, was it this board where there was a poster named FinnFan?
I liked that dude.

5. He and I bonded over all things Finn. He changed his screen name but I haven't
seen him in awhile. Agree about Message to My Girl. I won a contest for a semi-private mini-concert from Neil Finn before a show a few years back and he sang that, just him and a piano. It put chills up and down my spine. Even better though was him singing my special request: Walking on the Spot from CH's Together Alone. Again, just him and the piano. Perfection. I'll never forget that night.

6. isn't that the most beautiful passage?
The bit where the song lifts, the wind picks up, the sail fills and they're off, singing "Aoteoroaaah ... " I soar inside when I hear it.

Beloved band. Shining stuff. My cousin had a huge crush on Tim Finn, she used to see him on Bondi Beach on the weekends, and sigh from afar.
