My husband is currently in surgery....good vibes needed.
Hubby was out having a nice motorcycle drive with his buddy yesterday when some jackass decided that making a pass in a blind curve was a good idea. Hubby was going about 25 and the guy in the SUV was going probably 35....he has a split second to react (car was about 5 feet away) he managed to swerve right and nailed the Xterra by the driver's side headlight....was thrown about 30ft, cartwheeling along the way, landed on his right knee and as the surgeon said 'We call this a total blow out'. Kneecap is in little pieces and they're trying to screw it back together. He was fully geared up and we realized what a miracle it was to come out of a head-on collision - bike vs. SUV....doesn't make it any less scary.
It's so hard to see your beloved in pain and scared.

Good vibes please.

5. Good, good vibes for your hubby!
I hope today's medical technology will make his knee as good as new. Sending good vibes to the surgeon, as well!

Please give us updates!

6. Good vibes and best wishes on the way.
Thank God he was fully suited.

Orthopedic surgeons can work miracles. When he starts his physical therapy, stay on his case; it's the key to complete recovery.

Keep us posted.

8. UPDATE - Surgery went very well!
Just got done talking to the surgeon...a great guy, let me tell you. Knee cap was in 3 main fragments...they screwed and wired them all together. Looks like NO ligament or tendon damage...I wanted to know if they checked to see if my hubby's made of teflon....holy crap.
From everyone's reaction in the hospital...and the EMT's originally, his injuries compared to the accident are just miraculous. Of course, his beloved bike Eleanor is toast, but bikes are replaceable...as I told him..HE'S not. He and some buddies were supposed to be taking a trip to Mexico on the bikes in a couple weeks....that's obviously out. If you asked me right now I want us to sell our bikes...but I have to keep in mind that hubby did nothing wrong here, and in fact if he'd been in our Sky he would have been in much worse shape. That accident was going to happen no matter what my hubby was riding on, or in.

I've got pictures of the x-ray after the surgery...I pointed out that the 3 pieces are in a perfect peace symbol shape...Dr. said, "Or Mercedes"...I said, No...it's a peace symbol.....wow, what a huge relief. Now just have to wait for him to get up to his room.

He's looking at a lengthy rehab, but that's all good. As for his job, he's an elementary school principal who never sits down. Guess he's gonna have to learn to for a while at least. He's also upset that he doesn't get to wear his Oscar the Grouch costume for the school "pageant"....Next year.

Thanks for the vibes guys....I just needed to put it down on "paper" while I was waiting and while I was in between friends being here.

As an aside, the EMT's all wanted his permission to take pictures of his knee because they had never seen anything like it....knee cap broke in half so it looked like he had no knee at all and the shin bone was visible against the skin on one side of his leg and the thigh bone was visible pushing against the other side. No broken skin, no blood, only road rash he got was about a nickel sized minor contusion on his wrist. And everyone in the hospital says..Oh, you're the guy with the knee.....not the kind of infamy you want!

25. I just got out of a 10 day stretch in the hospital, so I can relate.
Ran over my foot with a lawn mower and ended up losing my big toe. Not too bright. Getting a little better every day now.

I was confined to my bed about the whole time. Hubby will probably be stuck there too awhile. I hope he can at least get up and go to the bathroom. He will be better taken care of if he has you there as his advocate as much as practical. Otherwise he might be neglected by some of the hospital staff.
