Maybe, you came home one night and an armed and violent burgular was there and you didn't notice, so he snuck out. Maybe that last piece of chicken could have choked you to death, perhaps a mountain lion or bear was in your backyard when you decided NOT to go to the back of the shed to get some firewood. Stuff like that. I sometimes wonder.

1. Yes
I was raised in southern California and went swimming a lot in the Pacific ocean and I wonder sometimes if a great white shark may have swam close by me and I never noticed it.

Its an interesting subject, with many dangerous scenarios that we may have not been aware of that we missed by chance that happened in our lives.

4. I never thought about that one
even though there have been attacks in areas I have swam in. Never on the same day or even in the same year, but it is possible there were sharks that didnt attack when I was in the water.

Before 1975, that is.

I didnt go in the water for at least 10 years after seeing Jaws.

3. I mostly have wondered about that when I see a car accident
that happened just a couple of minutes in front of me. I think, what if I hadnt had to run back in my house to grab that (fill in the blank)....

Sometimes after I have made a long drive I think about that and wonder what happenstance time delays that occurred during the trip could have saved my life even when I dont come across another accident.

5. There were enough dangers due to both positive and negative aspects of my lifestyle...

... that I didn't have to worry about unseen/unknown coulda-beens.

I think, when I DO think like that... more of missed opportunities than of dangers
(including Lucy... "the one who got away").

6. I've thought about that many times...
And I've thought about many things that actually happened to me, wishing that they had been near misses.

7. My babysitter's creepy younger brother was arrested a few years later
for child molestation.

When I was a kid, my babysitter "Debbie" would always sit for my brother and sister and me when my parents went out. One night, she wasn't able to make it, so she sent her weird younger brother to substitute. He was pale, twitchy, and had an unhealthy obsession with handcuffs. And he brought a pair that night. He played around with them, and locked me and my brother together a couple of times, but that was about it. Nothing happened.

A few years later, we found out that he had been picked up for child molestation. None of us was the least bit surprised, but we were relieved that he hadn't really tried anything with us...

:scared:

8. Horror movies thrive on that stuff
Edited on Mon Oct-25-10 10:34 AM by charlie and algernon
Michael Myers peeking from behind a bush while the girl is talking on the phone, never seeing him.

The chair that moves by itself right after the person leaves the room.

The shadow that silently moves across the wall while the person is sleeping.

Etc, etc...

I try not to think about the stuff I never see, but it's hard not to. I've experienced a few close calls while driving that, had I been going a little faster, or arrived at that spot a second sooner, I'd have been in a serious accident.
