Poll question: The deluxe six-disc edition of Springsteen's Darkness On The Edge Of Town, in stores Tuesday

Exclusive Listen: Fifteen Bruce Springsteen Songs
Hear 'Darkness On The Edge of Town' outtakes one week before they hit shelves

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/51942/232004

Next week a deluxe six-disc edition of Bruce Springsteen’s classic 1978 album Darkness On The Edge of Town will hit store shelves, but you can hear 15 of the tracks right now exclusively on Rollingstone.com. During the original recording sessions Springsteen cut over 70 songs; those were whittled down to just 10 for the original album. Over the last year Bruce and his team dug through the vaults for the outtakes, even adding additional vocals and instruments to ones he never completed.

Some of these songs ("Because The Night," "Fire") were given to other artists to record, while others ("Candy’s Boy," "Wrong Side Of The Street") eventually became other songs. The remaining songs were only worked on briefly before Springsteen completely abandoned them. When the band listened to playbacks recently they couldn’t even recall working on many of them. In addition to two discs' worth of outtakes, the new edition of Darkness On The Edge of Town will also contain a remastered version of the LP and three DVD’s of live footage cut between 1976 and 1978, as well as a complete performance of the album by Springsteen and the E Street Band in 2009.

The tracks:

"The Promise"
"Racing In The Street (‘78)"
"Because The Night"
"Wrong Side Of The Street"
"Candy’s Boy"
"City Of Night"
"Fire"
"Rendezvous"
"Ain’t Good Enough For You"
"Someday (We'll Be Together)"
"One Way Street"
"Spanish Eyes"
"Talk To Me"
"The Little Things (My Baby Does)"
"Breakaway"

1. Robert Randolph and the Family Band
They have a new one out as well. Just Sayin'. I imagine Springsteen's stuff will sell more than Randolph's stuff. Rock on.

3. No, the first album was a misguided attempt at "being Dylan."

...it was all uphill from there (although I acknowledge the fact that there are probably rabid fans of this album).

7. Not misguided as much as still a young , quickly evolving and growing artist

And still at that point somewhat undisciplined in his lyric writing. But obvious, even then, that he was reaching for something ambitious, and unlike many who were also reaching, he soon got there, and then some.....Some clunkers on this album, but some amazing stuff too like Saint in the City.

8. I had friends who were into his music...
...the song that got my attention was "Sandy" from the next album. I heard that and thought "Now you're talking."

The forced wordplay on the first album was just too much for me. I hear what you're saying about the reach.

5. Cool!
I first saw Bruce on the "Darkness" tour and have been a huge fan ever since. It will probably be extravagantly expensive, but what the hell...I've been a very good boy this year!

(And why do people love to hate on Bruce, anyways? Could they just never get over the lack of long hair and spandex?  )
