1. She's unrecognizable! And gogeous.
I loved that movie. I read the book first and the movie reminded me how inclined I (who am freaking MARRIED to a man whose family would have been called hillbillies) am to stereotype. I was seeing Hatfields and Coys, and the movie reminded me that these are modern people whose way of doing things is modern dysfunctional. Quite the legacy, though. I'd recommend both, though they changed the ending.

136. bed-head has suddenly become the "in" look for women
Why that is I have no idea since it's ghastly. I noticed this with the last few awards ceremonies. I often think "in" styles whether it's hair or clothes starts out as a joke just to see if people will fall for it - and they always seem to.

13. WOW Ryan Secrest is hitting it out of the park with the questions
he just went deep with Kevin Spacey (executive producer of "The Social Network") on the role of Facebook on the current state of revolution. Spacey said that Zuckerberg wanted to have nothing to do with the movie....and that communication between people is vital in the future.

He then asked Juntin Timberlake what he thought of Napster back in the day. "Wow seems like a lifetime ago" said Timberlake. He then said that he was in in NSYNC at the time but other than that he would have been in college and probably using Napster. Now he has songwriters as friends so it is difficult to balance the two.

Once a year, I would watch broadcast teevee for the Oscars. The rest of the time, the set sits in the corner under a dust cloth except for weekend video time.

After the digital switch over, I'm out in the cold. But what interests me most can be found the next day on YouTube - In Memoriam.

I think Picture and Lead Actor are pretty much sealed up with King's Speech and Colin Firth.

Only major one I want to disagree with is Original Score...I'm hoping for Hans Zimmer for Inception.

It really was a fantastic film. But I guess, at the end of the day, I would have to pick HTTYD as the best animated picture of the year (though I'll admit I haven't seen the third one that was nominated.)

162. Christ, playing The King's Speech over all of the others.
It was a good movie, but so many of the other nominees were better.

182. Oscar voters need to get over their anglophilia!
Or are they just always getting it wrong these days.

Social Network, Black Swan and True Grit were superior films

170. It was a good film!
You don't have to like the Queen or the Monarchy to enjoy it.

It had a decent, uplifting theme. :)

180. I don't think anyone would really deny that it was a great movie, because it truly was.
But looking at films like 127 Hours, Black Swan, True Grit and the Social Network, it just doesn't seem like it was really the best film.

But Collin Firth absolutely deserved the Best Actor Oscar; there were a lot of great performances this year, but there was never a question that he would win, or that he deserved to.

174. A great night!
I did pretty good this year on my predictions- 18 right, 6 wrong

Correctly predicted:
Best Picture- The King's Speech
Lead Actor- Colin Firth
Supporting Actor- Christian Bale
Lead Actress- Natalie Portman
Supporting Actress- Melissa Leo
Animated Feature- Toy Story 3
Documentary Feature- Inside Job
Documentary Short Subject- Strangers No More
Film Editing- The Social Network
Foreign Language Film- In A Better World (Denmark)
Makeup- The Wolfman
Music Original Score- The Social Network
Music Original Song- "We Belong Together" (Toy Story 3)
Sound Editing- Inception
Sound Mixing- Inception
Visual Effects- Inception
Writing Adapted Screenplay- The Social Network
Writing Original Screenplay- The King's Speech

The prediction's I got wrong:
Art Direction- The King's Speech
Cinematography- True Grit
Costume Design- The King's Speech
Directing- David Fincher (The Social Network)
Short Animated Film- Day & Night
Short Film Live Action- Na Wewe

I thought this year's awards were very well done and felt fresher than the years past. I also believed the Academy got it wrong with the Cinematography and Directing awards this year. True Grit was an amazingly gorgeous film and David Fincher's directorial work in The Social Network was paramount to the film's success. I had a feeling Art Direction and Costume Design would have gone to Alice in Wonderland but went with King's Speech because of past precedent. I didn't get a chance to see any of the short films this year so those were true guesses.

As for the ceremony itself- I enjoyed the set design and flow of the show. The ending was fantastic with the chorus and bringing out all of the night's winners. Also enjoyed seeing the candid backstage moments shot by camera's and phones and posted online through various media. The only thing I would change is ditching the dual hosts and stick with the single host.

175. Reviews over at E-Online already call Hathaway & Franco some of the worst hosts
And made a comment about the hopes that Billy Crystal would have stayed out on stage and finish up that train wreck.

and :wtf:

Each year I enjoy when they give out those 'Governor's Awards' to distinguished members of Hollywood but instead it was a 2 minute clip hosted by Annette Benning. So instead of seeing the career highlights from such amazing talents like Francis Ford Coppala (he got the Irving Thalberg) and Eli Wallach (he got something else), we got to see 6 minutes of Oscar's celebration of the Auto-Tuner using a movie that received many razzing nominations, that Twilight garbage.

179. Alright, so to sum it up:
Franco and Hathaway were kinda eh. Wasn't surprised The King's Speech did as well as it did. Disappointed that Inception didn't win for original score. Happy for Toy Story 3. Seeing Kirk Douglas was a huge plus. Celine Dion + remembering that Leslie Nielsen died nearly brought tears to my eyes.

181. Roger Ebert's review of the Oscars, on Twitter:
ebertchicago Roger Ebert
The worst Oscarcast I've seen, and I go back awhile. Some great winners, a nice distribution of awards, but the show? Dead. In. The. Water.

184. I am SOOO happy that King's Speech won;
I absolutely loved the movie, and Colin Firth, too. I'm equally happy that the damned Social Network didn't win. I was worried at first when it won for editing, since the movie that wins in that category tends to take home the Big One.

199. Only best picture nonimees I saw were Toy Story 3 and The Social Network
Edited on Tue Mar-01-11 09:48 PM by mvd
I liked both, but Toy Story 3 more. Thought The Social Network focused on conflict/the trial so much that it was one-dimensional. But still enjoyable. I'll have to see The King's Speech.

As for the show, I think Anne Hathaway has comedic talent. There's definitely been funnier material for the hosts, but have to give the young people a chance to host.

oh, Social Network was over-rated. Inception was a masterpiece in storytelling. Toy Story 3 made me cry.
Black Swan was far better than I expected. The Fighter was great and inspiring. I look forward to The King's Speech.
