1. The song everybody loves to (ahem) hate.
.
.
.
100+ million hits.
.
.
.
Did you see that audience INTO that song?
.
.
.
It'll be awhile... but I'm betting this song will be on the top of untold
lists of "guilty pleasures".

Rebecca Black's version sucks, but that version was pretty fun.

I should try and find it, but there's a great scene in Family Guy where Peter and the guys hear that Barry Manilow is performing in town. They all start ripping Barry Manilow, saying how he sucks, etc. But then one guy says, "but X song is kinda alright." Then another "I do kinda like Y song as well." This goes on for a couple minutes before the 4 of them are jumping up and down in excitement that Barry Manilow is perfoming and the next scene is the four of them sitting wide-eyed in awe at the Manilow concert.

Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ursTBD0sZ0

3. I remember an OLD Rolling Stone interview with Barry Manilow (whose music, BTW, I really detest)...
.
.
.
.
.
...where the interviewer 'fessed up to approaching his subject with disdain
and came away impressed by how nice and unpretentious Manilow was...
and not the least bit delusional about his place in the realm of pop music.
.
.
.
Henry Rollins (who I LOVE), though he later dissed them BADLY (so I've heard...
I haven't been able to find it) went to a KISS concert expecting to be bored
to tears -- and he ended up being impressed as hell at the intensity (all glam
show or not) with which these 50-somethings performed. He said it beat the
HELL out of all the "jaded" 20-year-old shoe-gazers that had been all the rage
at the time.
