As posted before, I think that is a great Easter Morning song, sorta an Eater Egg, the story of them running into the tomb and seeing the body gone, and how many at some time or another have that same fear. I think the better spirit has always been here in many ways.

The comment Heroes for Ghosts, and Hot Ashes for trees, both fit in the difference of stone and wood craft, I would guess Floyd has a wood craft preference. Actually that is presumptuous, maybe they favored tree, but there songs have much stone in them also.

Although they say it both ways on the topics, one is tree for stone, the other stone for tree, so when you listen to it, is it saying, did you as in it is a bad thing, or did you as in it is something admired. Might even be a comment of both, I find that really interesting.


And a smile from a veil is really beautiful.



(Note I ignore whatever is said at 19 seconds, people been adding things to video clips to try and take away beauty of music, been happening for awhile, like the person that added to the beginning of Hero music video. Have to learn to know when something is to try to block the great stuff in things like stories and song.)

The phrase "did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage" is something else.

It is the hardship of making a difference, what Pink Floyd probably felt, as do many other people that try and are in the spot light, many are people that inspire me. I think it is about those that take some hardship to pull the world to better justice, people that make a stand when it is not easy.

In my view that is not saying that is a bad decision, but explaining the difference in situations. The why of some things. It also fits Easter story.

24. Roger never made any bones about the fact

that he felt utterly imprisoned by the band's success after "Dark Side." He hated the fact that the band had to play football stadiums to faceless crowds who didn't get his points, the things that were expected of him by the suits both in terms of musically and businesswise, and the demands of stardom. He'd never wanted to be a "rock star" but rather a successful working musician with a non-mass audience.

It took him about twenty-five years to work through all of that. Fortunately he never became self-destructive and eventually embraced a style of performance presentation that he was comfortable with (i.e., no more football stadiums).

I saw The Wall 30th Anniversary tour last fall and the man I saw on stage was having fun, enjoying performing and seemed thoroughly at peace with himself and his legacy, which is a staggering one. Recent interviews I've heard confirm that. I suppose it's easier to mellow in one's late 60s (RW is now 67 IIRC) but he seems to be about as content as can be and proud of what he has accomplished in a remarkable artistic career. He has earned every bit of it.

25. "Bad Sneakers" by Steely Dan...the BEST vocals of Michael McDonald's CAREER.

The Doobie Brothers stuff, for me, was too brittle, too crass, too desperate to be "hit singles." I liked him on "Takin' It To The Streets," his first album with the Doobies, and progressively less after that.

But his work on "Katy Lied?" Holy CRAP...especially his vocals on "Bad Sneakers"...

...his harmony with Donald Fagen is the stuff of legend:
