(Did anybody actually get to play this game through? I don't mean anybody on DU, I mean anybody!)
I'm currently obsessing over Morrowind, and would give it top honors except for the frustrating lags. These are of course mostly my fault for trying to play it on an inadequate system, but I can't help but think that Bethesda could do a better job of coding for compatibility with slightly older systems. I didn't have problems with Civ3, for example, which is newer (or at least my copy, the Game of the Year Edition, is).
Baldur's Gate never really did anything for me. I liked the Fallouts better, but they all share a problem with Morrowind: a very depressing pallette. I think game designers should realize that their prime market is largely comprised of total depressives already, and that maybe they would be a little closer to heaven if they would maybe introduce primary colors now and then. Just a thought.
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura was extremely delightful. My interest sort of petered out by the time I got close to the ending (and I discovered DU at that time), but it gave me a lot of fun during the month I wasted on it. (Of course, this is another pallette dominated by browns and grays.)
I think Diablo is classed as an adventure game rather than an RPG, but I might be wrong. I only had a demo and was completely terrified by it. Loved, I mean really loved, the music though.
