Out of sequence, of course-- for some reason Netflix didn't have the other two available at the time I stuck them in the queue. In Swedish, naturally. With subtitles.

Good God! What is it about Sweden that gives us great cars, irresistable furniture, and fantastic movies? Having read the book, I knew what was going to happen, but the cast and director made me want to see how they were going to make it happen. The Sven Nyquist school of camera art is alive and well, too.

Curious thing about actresses fighting over getting Lisbeth's part, though. She was much more alive and interesting in the book, and it's not Noori Rapace's fault. She got what, 20 lines of dialogue in more than 2 hours and maybe three expressions written for her. She didn't talk much in the books, either, but the scenes were so descriptive, and people were talking about her a lot more. Tough to bring that over to a movie, and really tough for any actor to make the magic.

2. She's still kinda kick-ass, but...

this is the third installment and she does spend a lot of time in the hospital and the courtroom, so there's not much ass kicking to be done. (Except for the nail gun thing, but even that was more nailbiting in the book. I know it's partly because I read the book and someone new to the story might be more on the edge of the seat, but, still, the setup in the book was better.)

Can't wait to see the first two, where she does a lot more.

It's still gonna be tough to match the books' narrative descriptiveness, though.

On edit--

I still curse the gods every day for letting Larssen die. He could weave one hell of a yarn and the story of Lispeth deserves to go on. I really got to like the rest of the characters, too.

4. yes, I curse the gods, too. These characters were really getting
interesting and the relationships were taking an "arc". Growing and changing and evolving. ~sigh~

definitely he is gone too soon.

3. I saw it but haven't finished the book yet.
I thought it was a very good movie and she looked exactly as the book described her. Haven't read enough to assess how it compares to the rest of the book yet. Hubby said the end was different. But it was a darn good flick. I kinda wish they wouldn't do an American remake.
