Ok ok ok, craft/micro/home brewers, we get it. Pumpkins
Can we now stop with all the pumpkin beers this time of year?

I had one last night from Souther Tier Brewing (in New York?) that tasted like pumpkin pie. I dont want beer that tastes like pumpkin pie. I want hoppy beer.

Can we all agree that the novelty of pumpkin beer has worn off? Everyone makes at least one pumpkin beer this time of year and it's time we stop.

1. I love pumpkin and I love beer
but yeah, I don't think I'd want them mixed. Certainly not as sweet as pumpkin pie.

Now if they could maybe infuse a hint of pumpkin into something like an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout I might could get on board with that.

But I have never even tried the pumpkin ales and beers I've seen because I worry that it would be much like you describe.

6. belgian sour is an interesting beer...
I have been drinking a lot of German and Belgian beers lately but do like an occasional hoppy beer (Stone Arrogant Bastard is my favorite).

7. T'ain't no snob like a beer snob -- even the worst oenophiles oenofall short of their snobbery.
.
.
.
I've never HAD a pumpkin beer, but the rave reviews by many tempt me to try one.
.
.
.
RAVE reviews by them as love 'em.
.
.
.
There are THOUSANDS of beers out there for you purists.
.
.
.
Why limit the choice and taste of others? Hint: JUST AVOID THEM (while clucking your
tongue at and about them -- them not being your, um... cup of tea? THAT part's OK).
.
.
.
One of the BEST BEST BEST beers I've EVER had was some sort of blueberry beer in a
microbrewery in Moab, Utah (a U-fucking-tah microbrewery -- seems un-possible, innit?)
.
If I hadn't been TOLD there were blueberries in the base, I'd have never gueesed,
but it was SO refreshing!!!!

8. It all depnds on who makes the beer.
Every pumpkin I ever had or made did NOT taste like pie. Yes, some of them had more spices than others, but none of them were sweet. Many of them were dry and hoppy. Post Road's Pumpkin Ale comes to mind. Blue Moon's is decent, although it used to be better before they sold out to Coors.

I love pumpkin beer. I wish my personal situation was better, as I'd love to get back to brewing it.

10. it's not as though hoppy beer isn't still available

As with most seasonal/trend brews, some brews are better than others. It's not my favorite, but I haven't minded most of the pumpkin beers I've tried.

Of course, I haven't had one that tasted like pumpkin pie, but I probably wouldn't care for that either. :)

11. Hopped beers cause man-boobs and impotence.
Damn those twisted Protestants.

Brawlers and fighters of the older faiths drink gruits.
