Why the lack of interest in the March in March?
I'm amazed at the lack of interest expressed here at DU regarding the march on the Pentagon next weekend. No meet-ups plans, no gathering points, etc.

From all accounts, this seems like it will be bigger than the march in January - which was spectacular!

Freeper-in-charge Jim-bob and his minions are caravaning all the way across the country to "protect the monuments" from the "leftist anarchists" who defaced the Capitol in January (yeah - like we all stormed the capitol, and, unable to gain entry, spray painted horrible messages of communism and whatever other garbage their ferret-brains could manufacture).

Cudos to those who are planning to attend. Our plans are not firm, but we really want to go.

To be honest, most of our family is going out of town for a wedding. We will most likely have to take our daughters, 9 yo and almost 11 (as she prefers:) ) They've been learning about the government and freedom of speech in school, and our original thought was that this would be a perfect example of democracy in action.

But now, with the wackos planning to attend en masse - and it sounds (dare you go tp freeperville?) like there will be alot, I don't want my daughters exposed to any potential violence.

For my DH & I we couldn't give a shit - if they want to give us crap, we'll give it right back at them.

In Jan., by this time, plans were made for a meet-up at the Hawk & Dove on Fri. night.

Are there any plans being made at all, or is this a non-starter for DU this time around?

I am going to cross-post to GN and the DC forum. Please delete if not appropriate

3. I'm Coming Up From Florida With My Granddaughter.... I Don't Understand
why there is so little interest here. I KNOW it could be the "ANSWER" people, but still it's really important that we get out there and be seen.

I do think the Jan 27th March hurt this one a lot though. Many just can't afford both. I didn't go in January as I had already committed to this one. Boy, I sure would hate to see this thing be a BOMB! The first time I expose my granddaughter to some activism on a larger than local scale and then find out it's really nothing much at all.

I will be eating crow I think!

4. Let's get this some attention!
I thinks it's terrific that you are bringing your granddaughter. Part of the reason we want to take our daughters is to counter-act my mother who is a total Faux noise Bushbot who thinks that politics is ridiculous, but who will vote for the party of her parents now that my dad has passed.

We want to show them that even one person's voice can make a difference. Although, when we talked to them about staying home w/ their 26 yo brother and fiance, they said, "but you guys went in Jan. and it didn't make a difference. Why are you going this time?"
To which we said that these things take time - every little thing helps.

5. I Made The Decision To Bring Her Because I Think It's So Very
important that those who follow us understand about Democracy and Activism! She's really looking forward to the trip and this will be her very first time flying!

6. How terrific!
I remember 2 summers ago when we took our kids to DisneyWorld - their first trip flying. They were nervous and excited. This will, without a doubt, be a trip she will always remember.

I mentioned my mom in a previous post - bushbot and all - who lives nearby. My husband (republican who HATES Bush and will be more upset than me if we don't go) - now his mother is a declared anarchist. She has met the Bush clan personnally (long story there) and hates their guts. Unfortunately, she lives an hour away and doesn't have as much influence on our girls as my mom.

PM me if you want with your hotel info. It would be great to hook up. Our only requirement is that the girls have an indoor pool. If that doesn't fit your ressies, no problem, you can be our guest at the closest place we can find.

I will not miss this march. Meeting friends from FLA. Getting there on Friday nite, are there any meet ups?

I think the majority of DU'ers went in January.

8. How Old Is Your Son?? My Granddaughter Will Be 12 In May....
we are coming up from FL, but I'm not coming with any group. Would love to meet with some of you who are bringing the "younger" generation!

Maybe we can meet somewhere before the March and walk together. Either way, I too don't want to miss it. I hear about many coming from Florida, but see so very little coverage here. This really needs much more ATTENTION!

I knew I was coming alone and that's okay, I'm friendly and am sure I could join in somewhere, but either way... I'll be arriving Friday morning at Reagan International!

15. I Think That Will Be A Good Idea...
I need to make sure which phone I will be using and will PM you about this, perhaps tomorrow.

I'll keep in touch. Just got an email from someone asking if I still needed a place to stay. Seems there is room at a church in the area, but I'm covered now. We can only hope this will be better than it looks to be.

I mean as much stuff that's going down, this is the PERFECT opportunity to push HOT BUTTONS and keep the flame lit.

We'll see soon enough I guess, but response here is astonishingly LAME!

21. I don't think there will be violence
there are never enough freepers to bother you much at these events, and the DC police know how to handle these events so they are safe. If you can't make it to this one though, Monday night there are candlelight vigils sponsored all over the country. Go to Moveon.org if you're interested.

I'm going with the Prince William Peacemakers, you might see our old schoolbus or our banner at the march. I might go to the candlelight vigil at Layfayette Park on Friday night too. And Monday night we have a candlelight vigil in Manassas.
