A piece of software perfect for activists
Bear with me, here, and please, read the whole thing. I'm posting here instead of the varied DU computer groups because a) I'm not currently a donor  and b) I think this piece of software deserves more attention than it will get if I post in a specialized group.

The software is version 3.0 (beta) of a bittorrent client called Azureus. Codenamed Zudeo, this is the best representation of online content distribution I've ever seen. Forget about illegal filesharing (yes, since this is a bittorrent client, you can drag and drop .torrent files onto it and download whatever, but keep reading, please)- Zudeo already serves up a large- and growing daily- amount of published public domain content, with everything from the expected trailers and "cool" commercial advertisements (hmm... a way to raise money for the 'network', perhaps?) to documentaries, short films, and full-length free student films, other feature-length public domain releases and fan fiction, and even a large selection of HD content (be sure to take a look at 'Blue' and 'An Elephant's Dream'; the latter is filmed in what looks to be at least 720p).

Honestly, I feel like I just got a whole new set of cable channels- and actually, the program organizes the files into channels, categories, and by tags- the last of which looks suspiciously similar to the system used on Daily Kos and other blogs to point out larger, more populated categories with larger fonts onscreen. To be frank, the interface is very slick and almost totally foolproof.

So why am I posting rhis is the DU activism forum?

This program has a 'publish' button. I don't think I need to delve into the implications of that function; I do think every activist with a PC or with access to one should check this client out. To be frank, this is one of the coolest things I've seen since YouTube- and, unlike YouTube, bittorrent isn't 'owned'. It definitely is, however, a tool activists could use. Please download it, try it out, and see if I'm right.

(A broadband connection is strongly recommended. Some of these files, especially the HD ones, are big.)
