JULY 19th - PROTEST BP AMERICA
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 10:33 PM by OneAngryDemocrat
On July 19th the Rockford Coffee Party - along with a myriad of other local grassroots organizations - will be protesting outside the corporate HQ of BP America, located in Warrenville, Illinois. BP's irresponsible behavior must not be swept under the carpet chasing after dollars and the promise of cheap gasoline.

No other group has yet advocated taking their outrage directly to BP's Board of Directors... but we are, and we need your support.

On April 20, 2010, The Deepwater Horizon, owned and operated by Transocean, Ltd., and leased to British Petroleum, exploded and sunk in the Gulf of Mexico, killing eleven employees and injuring seventeen others, causing an ensuing oil discharge which has been estimated to be as much as 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day into the Gulf's waters, and instigating an ongoing catastrophe which endangers the coast's fishing culture, threatens its tourism industry, and jeopardizes the entire Gulf coast ecosystem...

Hold British Petroleum Accountable!

I urge everyone to download and read the Rockford Coffee Party's resolution HOLDING BP ACCOUNTABLE. We intend on presenting the document to Congressman Manzullo's office the same morning we will be out in front of BP's corporate HQ.

All patriotic Americans are encouraged to join us on the 19th, in Warrenville, in demanding that BP be held accountable. The details, as with things of this nature, are in flux, such as our line-up of speakers, be we are goint to be out there, and British Petroleum will know we are there.

We are still looking for speakers to participate in our Cerny Park rally. If you, or someone you know, would like to address the crowd, contact us!

1. The Mayor and Chief of Police...
The Mayor and Chief of Police of Warrenville want to meet with members of the Rockford Coffee Party on July 9th, at 10:30 AM. Did I ever mention that BP was Warrenville's single largest employer? We've got their attention, people...

There's gotta be a better way, come on. What message are we sending BP (assuming that the boycott is even effective, which it isn't) by boycotting them? We are sending them the message that it's ok to pollute all they want as long as they don't do it in a first world country.

Shell, for instance, has environmentally ruined Nigeria with several reckless oil spills. Texaco (currently owned by Chevron) has dumped over 18 BILLION GALLONS of oil waste into the Amazon Basin. That's about 90 times the amount that leaked into the Gulf Of Mexico.

So why don't we quit the boycott of BP (besides, most gasoline that you and I buy is a mixture of oil from several refineries, which means I could be putting Chevron or Shell oil in my car at a BP stations) and acknowledge that the only solution to this situation is renewable sources of energy.

In other words, we need to start a massive campaign to educate people about the need to move beyond oil and get them to pressure their representatives to fund research for alternatives to gasoline (and plastic, since oil is in that too). Even without the pollution, we have a 30 year supply of crude left.

5. My, my, my...
Protesting and boycotting BP isn't effective, but ''a massive campaign to educate people about the need to move beyond oil and get them to pressure their representatives to fund research for alternatives to gasoline'' is?

I do believe that one of BP's crony's is trolling the board.

Would everyone please say "hello" to the corporate apologist!

6. Article from Mother Jones explains
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 07:18 PM by knownothing
why boycotting BP isn't effective:

BTW, you do know that Mother Jones is a fairly liberal magazine, don't you?

Or are they just another corporate apologist?

7. The article you referenced STILL said...
In regards to 'boycotting' BP, the article you referenced STILL said,

''Duke's Fitzsimons says that even if boycotting BP doesn't necessarily solve the bigger problem, it at least gives consumers some peace of mind about not supporting a company that they find reprehensible. "The psychological pleasure of 'punishing' BP will be satisfying in the short term," he says.''

Now... back to the topic at hand, which was the Rockford Coffee Party's planned P - R - O - T - E - S - T of BP America's corporae HQ in Warrenville, Illinois... a subject altogether different than your vexed boycotts, and a subject you seem desperate to want to divert attention from to discuss ''boycotts'':

A protest demanding JUSTICE for people who've been done wrong by BP is very, very, different than trying to make the country go green.

Perhaps you think justice is greatly over-rated?

Your posts have been off-topic since jump-street, you goof.

Now, push on with your bad < than 100 posts self.
