Protest the Draft and the War in Iraq! Grow Your Hair long!
Edited on Tue May-04-04 10:01 AM by The Democratic Kid
America is reliving the 60tys in a lot of ways war, uncertainty the draft, and it occurred to me what really pisses Republicans off? and how can we show a visible way that We The People are against the administration's policies and against the draft. We do what works, grow our hair long and protest, believe me it will send a strong message. Silly you say, people were beaten and arrested back then for what they believed in. Do we have the guts to stand up to these maniac's in DC. and fight for whats right and for a better tomorrow? Take care and please pray for Peace and fight like hell for your rights and for health care reform. The Democratic Kid...

1. Hey! My hair's been long since then
(or at least what's left of it). I knew those days would come around again.

6. Me too...I'll never cut my hair.
Totally un-repentant hippie. There are large numbers of us in Northern California.

3. LOL! I just lopped off my Freak Flag!
It was almost way down past my shoulders. I cut it off last Wednesday...driving along thinking about shit, and pulled into a Family Haircut Store. I started noticing that every cartoon and illustration and reference to protestors (in things like Non Sequitur comics, etc), the anti-estab guy was always a 40-something with a paunch and a ponytail. Well, fortunately I got in shape when I had my mid-life crisis a few years ago, so I didn't fit the paunch part, but the rest of it...shit. I felt like I had become a stereotype.

When you are perceived as a stereotype, I think you are much more easily dismissed. The listener assumes he already knows your opinions, because face it, you're a stereotype. I wore my hair long very proudly, just because it made it readily apparent that I was NOT a republican. But screw that. I left my two earrings in, just to add a little confusion. But I think people are likely to take my Bush rantings more seriously if I look like someone who might otherwise support him...if he weren't such a raging dickwad.

Long hair will now mean something again. That you have a purpose and guts!

5. Purpose and guts is why it was long
and why I cut it off. You gotta read my post again. It is too easy to dismiss a "longhair" because you think you know him. But I can slip into conversations with people and spring my hippy agenda on them without warning now. Before, it was too easy to see me coming. Like I side, the earrings aren't going anywhere. I have to leave some clue!

9. Danced off the paunch, no ponytail, I let my hair fly free
I'll never cut it short again. I like the way it looks and feels when it's long.
I could never pass for conservative anyway.
I'd have to replace my entire wardrobe.
Even then it would never work.

We don't have to get them to take US seriously.
We only have to get them to stop taking Bush* seriously.
