Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley Endorses Dean for President
BALTIMORE--Today, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D.
"The more I considered this decision, the clearer it became that Howard Dean is the one candidate I'm excited about. He's bringing new ideas and people into American politics," said Mayor O'Malley.
Governor Dean responded to the Mayor's endorsement: "I'm very pleased to gain the support of one of the Democratic Party's rising stars. Martin O'Malley is a national leader on homeland security and performance politics--making government accountable to the people. He is a great addition to our growing team, moving America in a better, more hopeful direction."
"Governor Dean's vision is one that will result in more jobs, not 2 million fewer, as we have seen on President Bush's watch - with poverty growing. As a doctor, he understands that it is simply unacceptable that 40 million American's don't have health care," continued Mayor O'Malley. "He is committed to a strong national defense - both abroad and here at home. And he realizes that America's cities are the places where we will determine just how great our nation is; he sees cities like Baltimore as opportunities, not as burdens."
"Unlike the current Administration, he understands that our national motto is 'Out of Many, One'--not every man for himself. Like President Clinton, he understands that balancing the federal budget is good for the economy. And, as his campaign shows, he knows that government can't solve all problems--you have to engage people in working for change. People are smart. They understand that as we fight a war on terror, we must make sacrifices and choices."
"Howard Dean's priorities are America's priorities. They're my priorities. And I'm proud to stand with Governor Dean as we work to take back America -- and America's place in the world as a nation to be admired."
