Advice Needed - Setting Up a PAC?
Theoretical situation:

Say I want to do some fundraising for a candidate via selling campaign merchandise. These items would be sold either on eBay or an individual site.

What forms do I need to get and fill out for it all to be legal - and not a pain in the ass in the tax department?

1. if you are going to donate less than 2000
then I think you can treat it as a simple business donation. I"m donating money from to moveon.org rather than to a candidate, because the limit is much higher, if one exists at all.

I know there is something like a 56,000 yearly limit for donations to the dnc.

But to answer your question, if you raise money (no matter how) you can donate $2,000 to any single candidate. Unless you are raising more than that, I don't think you need to worry about any legal forms or anything like that.

good luck.

2. not easy, always paperwork, and...
PACs require you to support five or more candidates so if you're interested in supporting one, a pac is the wrong way to go.

3. Thanks
Yeah, I went there last night and saw what a pain in the ass it was.

I wanted to have some Dean bobbleheads made up and sell them as a fundraiser, but it's looking like way more trouble than it's worth, in the long run.

4. Contact a lawyer
who has experience in campaign finance law. Your state party should be able to reccomend someone.
