"Anyone But Bush" is Not Good Enough
"Anyone But Bush" is Not Good Enough
Opinion By Jim Witkins

We??ve all seen the "Anyone But Bush" buttons, and
laughed, although admittedly with more than a little
frustration. You??ve also heard the pundits and
conventional wisdom: The Democrats don??t have a real
leader, no one has emerged from the pack, they??re no
different than the other party, and other similar
sentiments.

I propose that as the election cycle draws nearer, we,
and that??s a big "we", comprised of Democrats,
Republicans, Independents, Greens, Progressives, and
all the other groups opposed to Bush, get serious
about who realistically has a chance to beat George W
in the general Presidential Election. We need to put
aside our differences and find the strongest possible
candidate with the most experience to run against
Bush.

We must elect someone with an economic plan that
favors the nearly 3 million people out of work, rather
than the 1 million wealthiest people in our country.
We must use our vote wisely, to elect a new President
who will maintain our peace and security by working
multilaterally with the rest of our friends and allies
around the globe. We must unite in our efforts to stop
the continuing attacks on our civil liberties. We must
stop the ongoing degradation to our healthcare system,
educational system and the environment from an
administration that values the rights of corporations
over average citizens.

With so much at stake it seems almost insane to
squabble over minor details. It??s time to unite behind
a single candidate who has the experience and
leadership skills necessary to defeat Bush. The
consequences of ignoring reality, by clinging to
unrealistic expectations from a long shot candidate,
or using your vote in protest of the system, will only
leave America worse off for all of us. If you really
want to change the system unite behind the candidate
who will beat Bush if nominated for his Party??s
ticket.

After extensive research I believe that candidate is
Senator John Kerry. Please visit
www.independentsforkerry.org to see why I support John
Kerry. I encourage others to do their own research and
weigh the consequences of your choice. Can America
really afford another four years of George W. Bush?

Honestly, the "Anyone but Bush" attitude will only
result in a second term for Bush. It??s time to choose
sides, stand up for America, and say with one voice,
"I support John Kerry for President."

4. which is why ABBB is important
Just look at the precedding three posts.

Kerry, Dean, Edwards, Graham, .... everybody on DU has their favorite candidate(s) with strong reasons for supporting them.

But alot of folks aren't paying enough attention yet, and aren't going to pay any attention for almost a year from now.

Those are the folks we need to get involved - at least at the level of being ABB - the more seriously the better.

3. We want the best, but anyone is better than the worst
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 09:52 PM by Virgil
My personal opinion is we are ruled by treason. The fact that there is no special prosecutor for Bush is another terrible sign, just like the omission of the use of depleted uranium from prime time. It is far worse than Bush being the worst president ever as Helen Thomas and others sincerely believe, it is a fight to restore the democracy and Constitution that the criminals in Washington have trampled with media complicity.

I am for the impeachment of Bush and on intellectual grounds and not emotional and personal reasons. The public treasury and the environment and the average person are being raped at the same time.

Yes, I want the best candidate and you would think that whoever gets the Democratic nomination would be a likely choice at being best. Still, it does not matter. There is no doubt in my mind I will be voting Democratic no matter who it is. At least he is not the most successful war criminal on the planet and controlled by the neo-con and fundamentalist right coalition.

There is a great article up at CounterPunch by Boyle who wrote articles of impeachment for Bush that was and maybe still is a professor of law at the University of Chicago. It talks of the origins of the neo-cons- http://www.counterpunch.org/boyle08022003.html

7. It's A Great Website, But I'll Stick With ABB
I can't afford to move to another city, let alone another country. Bush must be taken down with extreme prejudice by any means necessary. I am more than willing to move over to another camp if Kerry should fail to get the bid. That said, I will also do my best to make sure that everybody knows tha Kerry is the best choice - not because of electability, but because of his commitment to progressive reform and long record of slaying political dragons. Not to mention his great hair.
