Another Lie about Howard Dean and what he said with links to disprove it
I was incorrect in that Dean was referring to John Ashcroft and not John Kerry, sorry for the mix up. But he did say John, when he knew John Kerry was his oppenent's names as well, so he should be careful about. And we all know Dean has attack Kerry numerous times.

Howard Dean said: “The way to balance the budget, Dean said, is for Congress to cut Social Security, move the retirement age to 70, cut defense, Medicare and veterans pensions, while the states cut almost everything else. ‘It would be tough but we could do it,’

http://www.msnbc.com/news/912159.asp
http://www.demog.berkeley.edu/~gabriel/dean2004blog/Dean_MTP_June_22_2003.htm

He also said: "I also would entertain taking the retirement age to 68."

and

"We’ve talked a little bit about how to do that. Maybe you look at the retirement age going to 68."

In the Arnolds Park Forum, which many Dean supporters have on tape, he says that Kucinich was incorrect in saying that he wanted to move the age to 68.

In the Illionis Forum this last week, he said he never said he wanted the retirment age to be moved to 70. This is clearly misleading people. And don't say he forgot, he just said two months ago, you can't forget that, and if he did, he will most likely forget everything else he says.

Have fun slamming me on this one.

3. I should start a thread
Saying that General Clark told Judy Woodruf that he likes to eat puppies for breakfast with a side of kittens, saying it was right there on CNN.

Oh woops, I misheard, he said "great to be here Judy," but he'd better enunciate better in the future, or else my malicious lying won't be as easy.

8. If Clark was even a candidate, that is....
It'll be interesting to see Clark go through an entire campaign making NO mistakes. Oh! Wait! He hasn't made any mistakes! (of course he doesn't HAVE a campaign because he's not running...)

11. lol true point
I really think some people want Clark because "hey we got a general on our side and that means we arent "tree hugging anti war liberals"
Its not like Clark is a household name like Eisenhower was 50 years ago.

17. Yes but Dean ate puppies first!
Of course then someone (guess who?) would find a link saying that actually Clark was the first to eat puppies, and that Dean just started eating them to attract the gullible puppy-eating wing of the Democratic party.

That Clark also fought a war. So I expect Dean to talk about he did too.

21. I was thinking the same thing
I am not using whether someone is a veteran as my litmus test and its not like Dean was drafted and didnt go, he wasnt drafted, and he opposed Vietnam like so many in his day, I do admire Gore and Kerry and many more dems for serving their country but.

23. I didn't even get that far, John...
I was still laughing about the statement that Dean is about to start claiming that he fought in a war (because Clark did)...Where did he come up with that?

26. No, that is your idea, you can have it!
The puppy idea is all yours, and the drinking game too. I think those are just wonderful dandy ideas. I am hard pressed to think why Dean would need to steal from Clark if Dean supporters are so cleaver to create such a wonderful idea as eating puppies and kittens and drinking into a stupor.

Have another drink please!

credit for his victorys. He already tried to cash in on his brother's death. He has no morals, so he will do what he thinks he can get away with.

20. Give me a Break!
"there was a thread the other day concenring the difference between "entertain" and support" which anti-Deanies just don't seem to get."

Yes, I guess we got to play with the definition. When he said "68" twice I sure he really meant 68 year on Venus too. I mean there 68 would be about 66 years instead, we shouldn't be fools and not realize these things, what he says and what he means are two different things, which is good for a political that is relying on communication to be the key to winning.

6. Dean Says He Misspoke on Social Security
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 12:16 AM by w4rma
WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean said Wednesday that he misspoke when he told the AFL-CIO he never favored raising the retirement age for Social Security benefits to age 70.

Dean acknowledged that he had called for such an increase when the country was faced with a deficit in 1995, but said he no longer thinks it is necessary. He said former President Clinton set an example of balancing the budget without raising the retirement age.
...
During an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" in June, Dean said an increase to age 70 is no longer necessary, but he would entertain an increase to 68.

He said the way to balance the budget now is to repeal President Bush's tax cuts and restrict spending. He said to balance Social Security, he would consider raising the retirement age to 68 and letting more salary above $87,000 fall under the payroll tax.

On Wednesday, Dean said since his appearance on "Meet the Press," he has consulted with experts and concluded that no increase in the retirement age would be necessary. A better solution, he said, would be to raise the salary limit.

"I'm willing to take it off entirely if we need to," he said.

When Dean notices he made a mistake, he has been correcting himself immediately. I am respecting that, alot.

I'm *very* impressed with this and his solution to balancing the budget, above.

I'm also impressed with the short list of Dean's misstatements that the AP is building at the bottom of all Dean apologies.

And I'm wondering where Bush's list is.

7. Nice to see you haven't lost your sense of vindictiveness...
Has it occurred to you that most people here view your ilk as a joke? Anybody who spends this much energy attempting to attack a single candidate loses all credibility.

I'll say it straight. Dean misspoke. He immediately addressed the issue, admitting that he did say it in 1995, but doesn't feel it's necessary any more.

If this is the best you can do, maybe you SHOULD stick to posting lies (like the Kerry/Ashcroft post).

10. I won't slam you. . .
but I will say that I find the "gotcha" game very unattractive, no matter who does it. There are tons of things that EVERYONE says that can be pulled out and used and twisted. I thought Kucinich's little ploy was the sign of a desperate man and I just regret that Dean didn't ignore him.

Do we not have enough on our plates trying to defeat Bush that we need to do searches and quotes and blahblahblah in order to discredit another DEM?

Geesh, let it goooooo.

12. You are hurting yourself badly on this forum.
This has been covered over and over and over and over, all today. Dean has come clean from this horrible crime. We have all expressed our regrets that anyone but Bush could lie.

This is not funny, and I don't see they let you go on doing it all the time. I see other people got deleted from the other thread, but not you.

I just state the truth about Dean. If you turned on the TV you would see Dean is back peddleing on what he said. I make a mistake I admit. I don't need to lie about Dean, just tell the truth :)
