A candidate below the radar
In an opinion piece, Ms. Van Haren writes;

"The candidate who's below the major media's radar screen often comes flying in to the political finish line.

One presidential candidate who has been routinely marginalized or ignored by major media is Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. While Dean may have been the most "vociferous" in shouting his opposition to the Iraq war, Rep. Kucinich "walked the walk" by leading and organizing congressional votes against the war.

Kucinich is also the only candidate who did not vote for either the war or the so-called Patriot Act."

<snip>

"Voters should look below the radar screen to find the "real deal."

I must say, I agree with her 100%

Dennis doesn't have huge numbers. The media doing their level best to marginalize him is the major reason.

Who decides your vote? You? Or the media?

I saw this line on a bumpersticker yesterday. It sums it up.....

"Annoy the Media, Vote Kucinich"

>>Kucinich is also the only candidate who did not vote for either the war or the so-called Patriot Act."

Not exactly correct...

He was the only one who voted *against* the two acts...obviously Dean did not vote for them either (or sharpton for that matter...)

2. Not an effort to slam, but
Since Dean doesn't want to repeal the Patriot Act in toto, I must assume that had he been a Congressmember he'd have supported the bill at least to some degree, with or without amendments. That alone is enough to make me question his views on Freedom in this country.

Just my personal viewpoint, no harm meant. :)

I love Kucinich and e-mailed him back in February of 2002, begging him to run. He happened to be in his office late at night and e-mailed me right back with a very nice letter. Of all the candidates, he is the one who has the ideals closest to mine. I was sporting a 'Kucinich for President' bumpersticker for a long time. I became disillusioned--I can't even pinpoint when it was, exactly, but I remember it had something to do with his unwillingness to talk about impeaching Bush. I love the man, but we need someone who is going to beat Bush and who's not afraid to go after him directly, and I don't know if Kucinich is dynamic enough to do it. I've read his speeches, and they are awesome, but I've yet to see him go after Bush like Dean has. I never thought I'd be this shallow.

Then comes Dean, who is able to stir up the base like no Democrat I've seen since Bubba. I voted for Gore, and staunchly stood behind him, but to be honest, I wasn't all that excited about him. The Democratic party needs someone with Dean's ability to energize the voters. I think he can get the moderate, swing votes and a lot of the Republicans who are disillusioned with Bush. Kucinich can get the Greens, but I can't see him getting the swing voters/and midde-of-the-road Republicans.

My sister is leaning towards Kerry. She's a very level-headed, solid kind of person, where as I'm more emotional. She is apprehensive towards Dean because he is reputed to be for 'big business' and is a moderate who only recently started coming across as a 'lefty'. She doesn't want to be disappointed and vote for someone she feels may be a 'phony' and do a turnaround once he is elected. She's had it with being lied to. I'm not too bothered by this, because Dean has a pretty good record in Vermont, though I am a little disturbed about some of his environmental record. However, next to Bush, ANYONE seems like an environmentalist. On the other hand, Kerry has really angered and disappointed me with his Senate votes supporting the Bush agenda, though not as much as most of the Senate Democrats.

If any of these 3 receive the nomination, I will put everything I have behind them, but I am leaning towards Dean, then Kucinich, and as the last resort, Kerry.

On edit: oops. wrong date.

8. nurse you see Wolfy B yesterday
Accused Bush and Cheney personally of doing what has screwed up California. Dennis is a great guy, would love to see him get the nod.

Do you realize that with both the House and the Senate in rethug hands, pushing impeachment is a pointless exercise. It ain't gonna happen. Period.

Even if,by some incredibly small chance it did succeed, what would it leave us with....President Cheney.

Impeachment is a non starter. I wish it were otherwise but those are the cold hard truths.

The shrub's father had that same bumper sticker in 1992. Heck of a lot of good it did him!

5. He's not going to be under the radar for much longer.
His campaign is picking up speed; we're good to go. And there are millions of folks out there, just like me, who will say, "Kucinich? Never heard of him. Wait a minute...that's what I wanted to hear. Who is this guy??? I've got to know more."

It kinda reminds me of Newman & Redford in "Butch Cassidy..."

6. What I'd like to know is...is Ms van Haren a member of DU?
because if not, our LWolf's 'real deal' is evidently a natural meme.

7. This is a Democratic problem. Only the Republican-sympathizers get
coverage. In the general election, only the Republicans will get coverage. Remember Rupert Murdock, they guy who wanted to burn the ballots in Florida. Anyone remember that NBC is owned by G.E., which makes war munitions. They will only cover the Republicans favorite Democrats in the primaries and then only cover the Republicans in the general election. The only way we can win is to make our own coverage.

10. Isn't working
Most strangers I speak with want Kucinich. They're just not among those being polled but they will be heard in the primaries.
