You just can't come out in favor of killing innocent children, nowadays.

10. The difference between
number one and number 10 on that list is probably very little. It would be interesting to see just how the factors were quantified, and what kind of scores resulted. I bet you'd actually find the scores naturally fall into about five groups. Maybe four, maybe six, but the clusters are the important divisions.

Pretty funny how Nick reported 1998, when VT was 10th, but not 1999, when they were back up to 4th again. Oops.

23. Have you proven that his post is not factual? All I see is

people bitching because they don't want to accept any of the inconvenient facts about Dean's tenure as governor.

It's not Nicholas J's fault that Vermont's ranking fell during Dean's watch. You sound like a wingnut trashing someone for pointing out the economy has tanked on Dubya's watch.

24. Um...
Yes his post was factual but incomplete. VT fell in the ranking in 1998 but was back up to #4 in 1999, while Dean was still Governor. His information wasn't incorrect, just predictably slanted against Dean by being incomplete. And in any case, falling to #10 is not so bad; I would love to have my state be in the top 10 in this ranking.

28. As others said...
Nicholas J's post is accurate. It is misleading, however, since the state went back up to #4 while Dean was STILL governor.

So yes, he is being dishonest.

25. More shocking stats here!
Health Care 96% of Vermont’s children have health care coverage thanks in part to Governor Dean’s Dr. Dynasaur program, and an additional 3% are eligible for coverage.

Success By Six As a doctor, Governor Dean has placed a strong emphasis on early childhood prevention and health care, which is why 89% of pregnant Vermont women enter prenatal care in the first trimester of pregnancy. In Vermont, 91% of families with a birth received a community visit, and those parents who wanted assistance and support received it.

Governor Dean has expanded children and pregnant women’s access to health care. Currently 58,903 children are covered under the program. Dr. Dynasaur covers children up to the age of 18 within families up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Line.

Child Abuse During Governor Dean’s tenure, Vermont was the first state to institute a statewide protocol for abuse investigations. In return, Vermont saw a 45% decline in physical and sexual abuse of children. This included a 64% decline in physical abuse victims ages 0-3 and a 43% decline in physical abuse victims ages 0-6.

Child Sexual Abuse 84% decline in sexual abuse victims ages 0-3 and 70% decline in sexual abuse victims ages 0-6.

Immunization 81.1% of children are fully immunized by age 2 and 97% by the time they start kindergarten, which makes Vermont second in the nation in child immunizations.

Also, teen pregnancy rates dropped 49%.

Sorry about all the FACTS. I couldn't resist :-)

31. genius, do you READ the thread before posting?
We've already established that in 1999, Vermont returned to 4th place (a fact which Nick conveniently left out). There WAS no "slide".

Wasn't it you who said in another post that Dean supporters ignored facts? Look in the mirror for once, genius.

34. Or the other states had a big increase...
Always two ways to look at statistics. Also you small window (4 years) doesn't show any trends. There could be an anomalous year in 1998. Vermont is a small state and could be affected by a low number of graduates or so many other causes.

This is just a pathetic attack with no backing. Vaporassault.

35. where was Mass. during Kerry's term as Lt. governor?
If you want to support Kerry that's fine. I'd love to hear about his record. But for right now I think I should vote for Dean because he managed to keep Vermont in the top quintile for states in which to raise a child. That is an impressive feat compared to Bush and Texas.
