Stupid Conservative Websites
I caught my daughter reading one of these ridiculous conservative websites. I'm not sure if this guy is a blogger or just a dumb kid who writes about stuff he know jack nothing about. Listen to this...

"It was surely a sorrowful time for everybody here in Colorado Springs for the last couple days. Half of the troops killed in that helicopter crash were stationed right here on Fort Carson. I do not know if any of them were people I knew yet, but I am praying that all my friends are safe. This event really got me thinking. About the war, about politics, and about my own life and existence. It was comforting for me to know that these brave soldiers, now in the presence of our Father in Heaven, paid the ultimate sacrifice for a just cause and they died in the spirit of freedom. There is no way we can ever repay them for allowing us and the rest of the world to live as we will. It’s impossible to comprehend what the world would be like without brave souls like these who put their lives on the line day in and day out. It would be completely different, rest assured."

I was infuriated at this. Is this the way conservatives actually think, when people die for lies they are comforted by it??!!! He then goes on to say that dying for lies would be a "stone cold groove." And then goes on about religion and the liberal media sucks, that kind of conservative mallarky. Here is the link for it: www.jdavidchadwick.com

Are all Conservative sites like this? If they are than the internet is a scary place. I may have to use my AOL parental controls for my 16 year old impressionable daughter. What a shame.

8. Classic example of cognative dissonance
I did not know any people in the Navy that felt that way about the casulties during the Vietnam War. (I was in from 1969 to 1972).

I will wager that this sort of mawkish sentimentality is a cloak to conceal the weasel who is OK with sombody else's sacrafice.

its "...the old lie, Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori "

If I could, I would send that person to a combat zone in a heartbeat. Cosmic justice.
This war serves no purpose.

Your daughter needs some contact with reality. That might provide some perspective but I'd want to protect my daughter and yours from ever having to know about these things. I am sure she will encounter these issues all too soon anyway.

When I was a kid, I wanted to experience the Battle of Jutland.... go figure.

26. Silly kid
That link says the following line:
"I'm closing 'Deux Ego.'"

Now, with my few years of Latin study, I can say a few things:
1) DEUX is not a word the only possible endings for deus are -us, -i, -um, and a few others i do not feel inclined to look up. NO X's!
2) If he is trying to say "I am God" he is missing a verb. I know the Romans didn't always write out linking verbs but seriously, they wouldn't probably leave out on in a 3 word sentence - so right now it says I God. How intelligent
3)If that isn't pretentious, I don't know what is. And all of that from someone who screwed up a three word sentence - how hilarious

10. Parental Controls?
You're not going to instill progressive humanistic values in your daughter by imposing the same conservative censorship that we all rage against. Show her why you think the way you do, show her the good (progressive values), the bad (unreflected conservative values), and the ugly (right-wing conservative/fascist media sites). Once she sees what you see and knows what you know, then have the faith in your own beliefs to let her choose for herself.

12. Even more Stupid Conservative Websites. Is there any hope?
Its sad really, there are so many of them around. If you think those are bad you should see these:

www.protestwarrior.com Their whole idea is to "Crash" protests
www.fuckfrance.com Nothing but a Xenophobic racist site.

Not to mention all those blogs out there that don't seem to end.

My question is, are there any more sites like DU? I know of some but they don't have a large membership. I would just like to go on a forum where you don't seen some 16 year old wannabe conservative start spouting out the tired "its the liberal democrats fault that <insert tripe here>" line.

15. I wouldn't worry
I am sure your daughter is mature enough to spot
the rank hypocrisy behind that mawkish drivel.
To read and listen to the right-wing propaganda
is actually useful if only to get a sense of how
lying has become such an art form on the right.
It's been insidious and nothing short of
remarkable. Because of the way news and entertainment
are mixed, the truth has become essentially irrelevant.
During the war, Ollie North reported on Fox News
how French agents were busy destroying chemical
weapons in Baghdad "as we speak." He just made it up!
Just like that. Complete, total fabrication.
The NYT fired Jayson Blair for a lesser offense.
At Fox News that sort of fictional reporting makes him a
candidate for promotion.

It's a good thing to have an open mind and look at both sides of the political spectrum, that's the whole idea behind our system. You read, you listen, you ignore what you choose, It's good to have debate, talk to them, spend time with them and let them know why you have the views you have, rather than just shut them off from one political perspective.

"...........and let them know why you have the views you have,"

Impossible. The majority of these "people" rely exclusively on Rush,Hannity,Savage etc, to define for them who we are and why we hold the views we do.They have been thoroughly indoctrinated to believe that we don't just have different political views. Most of them believe we are Anti-American,treasonous traitors who are not to be trusted.

Under those conditions, you really can't "let them know" much of anything.

23. Let's look at this...
"People are you are referring to. I watch all of the shows you mentioned. I also like coming here and listening to all your views."
That excellent! ...if you truly have an open mind in listening to another point of view. My experience so far is that there is neither an open mind or intropsection from conservatives/Republicans who only want to toe the party line.

"What about CNN? Doesn't everyone claim they are a liberal voice for the radical left wing party? I watch them too. I don't easily fit in a category like conservative or liberal, I'm not sure anybody does."
From what I've seen, no..."everyone" doesn't claim that unless they're from the right wing.

"But I don't blindly follow TV shows, Radio, Internet News or message boards, I just listen and make up my own mind. I thought that's what the Democratic party was all about. I don't think by just listening to a show or reading an article, it automatically turns you into a nut job."
Fabulous! But ask yourself...are you as inclined to believe the truths spoken from democrats as you are the truths spoken from republicans? Or do you naturally discount one viewpoint because you lean (read support) towards the other?

"I'm fully supporting Bush, because I don't see much difference in either party at this point."
Good for you. Are you better off than you were four years ago? Are your friends? Are your family? Is your business or employer?

"Lieberman is the only Democratic contender that is concerned about security in this country.
This is a completely ridiculous statement...unless you beleive that war is the only possible action to take with governments of other countries. Take a look at the other candidates. You might be suprised.

"Hopefully I don't get banned for speaking my mind. This site appears to do that to some posters. I'm not sure if they are being fair by only allowing "Bush Bashes" here, and it would seem to get a little boring also, if that is the case. I guess if you don't see me come back, the moderators have determined that I'm a problem poster. "
Speaking your mind is a right afforded by the constitution. I have no problem with that and hope you will allow me to do the same...other conservatives don't believe that to be the case. As to "being fair", it is disruptive to the board and the moderators have the right to make the calls on it.

Just cause your conservative doesn't men your an idiot. To think that a conservative or a conservative site is automatically stupid is close minded. I have known plenty of smart conservatives. I don't agree with them, but they aren't stupid just cause they disagree. I spend most of my time on a conservative website. And I think its better then this site, simply because it doesn't ban anyone who disagrees with them. Whats the point of posting if your just preaching to the choir.

35. The George Bush Bush
This is a web site run by somebody I knew briefly in college, and who is a retired secret service agent; I found out about it recently.

What better way to show your pride and enthusiasm for the President (sic) of the United States than by planting your very own George Bush Bush!

http://www.georgebushbush.com/

This election year, and for generations to come, show your pride and enthusiasm for the President (sic) of the United States by planting your very own George Bush Bush.

What is the George Bush Bush and why was it created?

The George Bush Bush was created as a meaningful and timeless reminder of the President's (sic) commitment to the love of freedom and democracy in the U.S. and giving oppressed and tortured people the opportunity to live under freedom and democracy throughout the world.

http://www.georgebushbush.com/background.htm

To be fair, I will give the guy credit in that he does not (himself) bash anybody on his web site.

And I do find it a little sad; I have to say that what he is doing would be very beautiful if it were dedicated to someone who really had any decency and who really was doing good in the world.

37. A lot of conservatives would accuse you
A lot of conservatives would accuse you of immediately thinking to suppress your daughter's freedom to learn of viewpoints differing from yours, and using parental controls to deny free speech to someone who uses the internet to share their feelings with anyone who cares enough about people to actually read their posts. Your daughter may be one of those people who cares. To deny her the opportunity to experience how other people relate to tragedy would be a shame. If you've raised her well, she'll know the difference between empathy and sympathy. If she doesn't, this would be an excellent time to teach her.

Remember, too, that freedom isn't a lie. If a soldier believes he's fighting in the name of freedom, then he dies in the name of freedom. We shouldn't try to take that away from anyone. These kids aren't out there fighting for conservatism or liberalism. That's what we're fighting for here. We can fight for our political beliefs here, but we should leave them to fight their battles armed with whatever they need to believe, so they can come home safe- and let them live out their lives without the toils of conflicting ideologies in their hearts. If nothing else, we owe them the peace that comes with believing that they gave what they gave for a cause of greater nobility than politics and greed.

And point out the absurdities of the conservative way of thinking. The sooner the better, because soon she'll be going to college which is full of conservative nutcases and right-wing whack jobs. If you can teach her to refute the foolish conservative way of thinking, then you can rest assured that she will be a better person because of it.

Of course failing that, I don't see how using the parental controls or rescinding internet privileges is necessarily wrong.

While I don't necessarily support wars, I do feel bad for the families when our soldiers get killed.

I've seen websites which were ultra-right wing to the point of calling Osama bin Laden a "righteous murder" and calling Obama a "murdering thug" right after he was killed and said that Christians should look to the Iranian revolution to build a Christian nation.
