Tax rebate question.

If you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return, can you get the rebate? Our high school daughter works and filed a return but we claim her. That is someone who will definitely spend it.

2. My understanding is you don't qualify if you're a dependent on someone else's return

Also, in order for the person claiming the dependent to get any rebate money for dependants they must be 17 or under.

This is how it was explained to me by my accountant.

3. Straight from my letter from IRS

"To qualify for the payment, an individual, spouse, and any qualifying child must have a valid Social Security number. In addition, individuals cannot receive a payment if they can be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer or they filed a 2007 Form 1040NR, 1040NR-EZ, 1040-PR, or 1040-SS."
