Any ideas about why the Canadian $ is so low?
Apparently Canadian banks are much more solvent than US, and the Canadian budget is a lot healthier.

1. It has a lot to do with the fall in commodity prices
Much of Canada's economy depends on the processing of resources-- lumber, minerals, farm products, and so on. Essentially the same thing has happened with the Australian dollar-- once the commodities started heading south, so did the Australian dollar.

Falling oil prices and low commodity prices generally. A large portion of our economy is still derived as "hewers of wood and drawers of water".
