TPM: Who are the AIG counterparties? Here are some...
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/03/who_are_the_aig_counterparties_here_are_some.php

Over at TPM, Josh has been doggedly highlighting the refusal of both AIG and the federal government to reveal the identity of AIG's counter-parties in its disastrous credit default swaps. And several lawmakers have in recent days pressed Tim Geithner and Ben Bernanke on the issue.

The question matters, of course, because AIG needed to make its most recent multi-billion dollar trip back to the public trough (that's over $160 billion in all for AIG, if you're counting) in order to pay back its creditors on those disastrous swaps -- and thereby, we're told, prevent a wider financial collapse. So identifying who those swaps were made with will tell us, in effect, who this latest portion of our money is ultimately going to.

It's worth noting, then, that, thanks to some great reporting from the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, we do in fact have some preliminary information about who AIG's partners were on the swaps.

1. UBS is one.
That's right. We're giving tens of billions of dollars to UBS while they refuse to give up the names of tens of thousands of wealthy tax dodgers.

4. UBS and Phil Gramm
Little has been said in the media about Phil"Nation of Whiners" Gramm and his connection to UBS,Enron, Gramm-Leach-Bliely Act that FORESHADOWED the banking deregulations ALLOWING much of the abuses that are responsible for the Casino Capitalism of today.

Google UBS and AIG sometime,or Gramm and UBS.

UBS was AIG's firm of choice to market some of its toxic assets.

Gramm's wife Wendy was affiliated with Enron.

Gramm was McCain's head finance guy on his campaign last year.

U.S. stock market report <.N> 1043 ET 23Feb2009-AIG may give up control of Asia unit: sources
American International Group (AIG.N) may be willing to give up control of its prized Asian division, said sources with direct knowledge of the matter on Tuesday. The unit is worth about $20 billion.

The move comes as the company faces massive losses and is seeking additional funds.

According to the sources, AIG may consider a bid for a majority stake in American International Assurance Company Ltd if buyers submit a compelling offer. Previously, the company had been determined to cap the stake sale at 49 percent.

Shares of AIG tumbled 25 percent to 40 cents on Tuesday.
