My depression just ended
I have been having a hard time just going to work. I'm a self-employed architect. My best clients include a not-for-profit hospital group and a national chain of car dealerships. Since the first of the year, both clients have dropped all the projects I was working on. Almost half of my retirement savings have been flushed down the great toilet that is Wall Street. Yesterday I received an email telling me that I will be doing fairly large project for a federal agency. That's all the economic stimulus I need. I'll probably be adding staff and updating computer systems.

21. I wasn't expecting this kind of response.
I posted my good news because I think we all need to hear that there is a way out of this mess. This job means I'll be able to pay the tuition for my son's last quarter of college. It means I won't have to sell what's left of my IRA at a huge loss just to make ends meet. It means the seven firms that will be part of my design team can keep employees they might have had to lay off. It means the shop that does all our printing will have work that might keep them afloat. It means that my office manager's son's medical school tuition is not going to have to go for his parents' subsistence.

I know there is no linkage, but last week I sent Barack Obama a long letter telling him not to let the bastards grind him down. I told him how my wife and kids got me through the darkest hours and that he had a great family in his corner. We're all in this together and I love DU because we can share the best and the worst and find a better way forward.

23. Congrats! I'm a self employed illustrator and I know how you've been feeling
I lost all my savings to medical bills years ago. Every single one of my clients has their projects "on hold" right now because of the economic crisis. I have no idea how I'm going to make it but I hope that I get a promising email myself one of these days!
