A Disgusting Little Email Making the Rounds on Wall Street

A Disgusting Little Email Making the Rounds on Wall Street

http://www.thereformedbroker.com/2010/04/30/a-disgusting-little-email-making-the-rounds-on-wall-street/

"We are Wall Street. It's our job to make money. Whether it's a commodity, stock, bond, or some hypothetical piece of fake paper, it doesn't matter. We would trade baseball cards if it were profitable. I didn't hear America complaining when the market was roaring to 14,000 and everyone's 401k doubled every 3 years. Just like gambling, its not a problem until you lose. I've never heard of anyone going to Gamblers Anonymous because they won too much in Vegas.

Well now the market crapped out, & even though it has come back somewhat, the government and the average Joes are still looking for a scapegoat. God knows there has to be one for everything. Well, here we are.

Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you're only going to hurt yourselves. What's going to happen when we can't find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We're going to take yours. We get up at 5am & work till 10pm or later. We're used to not getting up to pee when we have a position. We don't take an hour or more for a lunch break. We don't demand a union. We don't retire at 50 with a pension. We eat what we kill, and when the only thing left to eat is on your dinner plates, we'll eat that.

For years teachers and other unionized labor have had us fooled. We were too busy working to notice. Do you really think that we are incapable of teaching 3rd graders and doing landscaping? We're going to take your cushy jobs with tenure and 4 months off a year and whine just like you that we are so-o-o-o underpaid for building the youth of America. Say goodbye to your overtime and double time and a half. I'll be hitting grounders to the high school baseball team for $5k extra a summer, thank you very much.

The author of this letter thinks main street's anger at wall streets failure is class warfare.
Funny, I thought pursuing short term profits by laying off workers, sending jobs overseas, betting against investments sold to pension plans was class warfare and much worse for the local economy than a few brokers living the high life and paying for landscaping. What do you think?

4. They think what they do is soooooo important
What a teacher or an autoworker does is 10 times more important than those self-important blowhards do who just pass money around all day.

7. Oh, I can think of some nice instruments many of us would like to
Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 06:08 PM by Berry Cool
tell them to go use on themselves in a not-very-nice way.

I'd like to see one of these asshats survive a half hour with a roomful of nursery-school kids, for example.

They think they work harder than anyone on the planet because they stand on a floor and trade stuff that doesn't exist. And who do you know who last "retired at 50 with a pension"?

These jerks make more in a day than most people do in a lifetime...and they are threatening to go Galt on us? What a pity. I'd like to see them have to feed, educate and raise their own kids instead of working 5 to 10 on a trading floor. Or have to work picking fruit, or in a restaurant, or in a supermarket. They'd fold like a house of cards.

Edited to add: Let's see them take other people's "cushy" jobs and not "whine" about being "soooo underpaid" when they're earning only minimum wage.

8. Fuck these greedy assholes. They wouldn't know an honest day's work
if it bit them in the ass.

They brought down the economy with their greed, and now they are whining because they got caught.

9. A good illustration of Wall Street's image of itself. The masterful overlords of society.
Good lord. If this is some peon's view of himself, think of what the top guys think.
It fits right in with their arrogant attitude.

They really are just like the French aristocracy before the revolution. Exactly the same.

I've never heard of anyone getting a government bailout because they lost too much in Vegas.

To paraphrase the immortal words of Dick(head) Cheney - go f**k yourselves!

12. No ,,,
"Well now the market crapped out ..."

No that's not the problem. The problem is YOU and your brethen crapped out ... with our money; and then you still got rich, on our money. That's our problem ... That's why we are angry.

13. I would love to see these assholes get a real job with real pay.
I have know plenty of spoiled brats on the street. Some in my own family. I have one cousin who sacrificed a lot to leave it and become a teacher. She did it because being connected to her community was more important to her than money. Her greedier friends still laugh at her. She has two masters degrees and makes a fraction of what those crooks are making for knowing nothing but how to gamble with other peoples livelihoods.

14. No. Their job is to facilitate investment in business. Since they have
Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 08:03 PM by jtuck004
lost that moral compass, they can quite rightly leave. I bet they won't get up at 5 and work till 10 running a convenience store, or working on a phone bank for $9/hr.

It's a whole different life when you make 300, 500, or whatever per year with bonuses of at least that or more.

And if I might steal a quote from Bill McKibben's excerpt at: http://www.alternet.org/story/146623/

"Even David Ricardo, the nineteenth-century economist who helped kick off globalization with his theory of comparative advantage, never quite imagined the Flat Earth we've lately celebrated.

It was true, he said, that since Britain could make cloth more cheaply, and Portugal wine, each country should specialize. He believed, however, that capital would stay at home, due to "the natural disinclination which every man has to quit the country of his birth and connexions and entrust himself, with all his habits fixed, to a strange government and new laws. These feelings, which I should be sorry to see weakened, induce most men of property to be satisfied with a low rate of profit in their own country, rather than seek a more advantageous employment for their wealth in foreign nations."

I think Ricardo would be "sorry" that these financial terrorists have taken the path of shoveling wealth to a minority at the expense of their country, and would agree that they should feel free to go compete for landscaping jobs, or go stand in front of a bunch of 3rd graders whose parents are too busy to read for them yet insist that they be "educated" as if it were some sort of vitamin they can swallow. The gutless coward above would run screaming from the room. And it might be the first real work he or she has ever done.

ON SECOND THOUGHT, IF HE/SHE IS REALLY PROUD OF THAT LETTER, I WILL DRIVE THEM TO THE BAR WHERE THE PEOPLE GO AFTER THEY GET OFF WORK IN THEIR SIMPLE LITTLE JOBS DOING LANDSCAPING. HE/SHE CAN READ THAT OUT LOUD.

ANYTIME...

19. Well, at least these Wall Street idiots know they are no better than gamblers in Vegas.
But the last time I looked "real" gamblers never get "real" jobs. They are always looking for the next bet, the next lucky streak, the next big win, the next con. A gambler who is addicted and never reformed, will no more take my job away than the millionaire with the fancy suit will. They don't know how to work, they are so hyped up on adrenaline, moving tons of other people's money around, hoping for the next big con. They don't know how to make anything real, create anything real, grow anything real. They don't know how to do real work. It's all just an illusion.

By the way Wall Street, Main Street was doing just fine before you came along, bought off the regulators, and choose fraud as your career path. Before you conned the American public, by rigging the hostage crisis in Iran, into voting for an ignorant fool for President, we were living longer, had lower infant mortality rates, had a somewhat equal distribution of wealth and were pretty happy without all your crap.

Before Raygun, I was making good interest on my savings. I had a good union job that kept up with inflation, I could retire at 62 on FULL Social Security and didn't have to wait until I turned 70 years old. My house was going up in value and I had a real pension, not a 401k let's-hope-Wall-Street-doesn't-steal-all-my-money-before-I-retire fake pension.

Main Street was doing just fine before you started gaming the system and conning everyone. And you think you'll take my job? Yeah, well I wouldn't bet on it.
