Spitzer Probes Insurance Brokers on Deals
NEW YORK (AP) - The office of New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, still in the midst of talks with mutual fund companies, has started investigations into business practices by the insurance brokerage industry.
Three leading insurance brokers, Aon Corp., Willis Group Holdings Ltd., and Marsh & McLennan Cos., said Friday they have received subpoenas from Spitzer's office requesting information about compensation agreements they have with insurance underwriters.
The investigation focuses on certain types of revenue sharing between insurance firms and brokerage firms that sell property and casualty insurance to corporate clients, according to industry sources.
The companies say the attorney general's probes are still in a preliminary stage, and they are cooperating fully.
