MiltonFriedman:"only3things:army,treasury,courts"
Anyone know just where M Fried. wrote his infamous line to justify tax cuts {and killing off the poor by ending all dem pograms, like food stamps}?

"gov only has three functions - the army, the treasury, and the courts."

Not enough citizens realize this is the RW goal. We need to source this quote, to get it out as the pure evil it is.

6. This is the concept behind..
The book by Adam Smith | An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations

Consider it the blueprint for capitalism. Written in 1776 (IIRC)
http://www.bibliomania.com/2/1/65/112/frameset.html

It is a good read if you have the time for a few thousand pages.

All things beside those three should be in the hands of the private sector. He makes a good case for the concept. But, just like all other social concepts things fall apart when you factor in human nature.

I would at least check out the first few chapters. It is a good read.

7. still need source
on milton. Anyone?

PS the hate of gov among the avg joes, probably comes from
1. just following the media
2. hate of welfare for helping minority mothers. offshoot of racism.

PS putting most things in private hands ... advocated above, indirectly... means you lose control of them. Little kings take control.

8. Adam Smith-waste of time
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 11:16 PM by oscar111
this old turkey will waste your time. Better to read summaries of him, and devote the leftover time to Robert Reich and Klugman{sp?{ in the NYT, i think on every thurs.

You can spend time taking apart an antique car, or designing the car of the future. Your choice. A compassionate person, seeing billions with no car, will chose to design for a better future full of cars, not sit down and take apart an antique.
