Still hot. Got our fall planting in time for the full moon. Nights are getting "cooler". Below 75 degrees at night. Bits of rain here and there, enough to keep us going.
Tax people. ugh. Apparently there were some riots in the city about a week ago. Things seem to be heating up all over. After our little visit by them a month ago, they haven't come back. But I think that was just a little shot across the bow. The houses with the tagged trees got notices this week. In summation, pay your taxes or move out or get kicked out. Barny Sims our local "lawyer" has been trying to work out something with the city. Still waiting.
I finally got a chance to talk to the Army Commander. He stated that "garden plot" was nothing more than and "agra-devel" plan. Why don't I believe him? I was then hustled out of his office.
At our community meeting Connie and I presented our "emergency plan". Basically, we talked about in the event we all have to suddenly leave, we should have an emergency reserve of food for quick pick up and go. Several of the members suggested that a class or two in how to handle firearms should be in order. That got me a little knot in my stomach, but sadly, it made sense. In the end, we all decided that a blanket schooling of various topics should be required for everyone. Basically, how to survive on your own if the community collapses.
We've had an influx of drifters coming into town. It seems as if our little community is fairly successful. Word has gotten out. Sadly, we can't take them all. No room. So many houses had to be leveled for farming. We have to vote now. If someone comes that has a viable talent, that goes a long way to them staying.
Some of the communities kids started throwing rocks at the State security guys. Not a good thing. Next time, the State guys said, they are going to start taking anyone in that give them trouble. Aka disappeared.
Two root cellars are done and two more should be completed in about a weeks time. good timing. Just before winter gets here.
We got a good source off salt now. Everyone is happy about that.
From our friends "overseas"...
Large sections of London have been flooded. So has parts of Southern Spain. Apparently they look a lot like much of the gulf coast now.
Several of the tar sand sites were blown up in Canada. The Russians and the Canadians are accusing each other. Shots have been fired.
China has quietly occupied Viet Nam.
Cholera has claimed a number of people throughout east and western Europe.
Aside from Canada, Russia has appeared to have rolled up it's sidewalks. no word.
On the home front...
Denver, or at least parts of it has become a penal colony.
Several members of senate walked out in protest against the lack of leadership. It's really amusing, no one listens to Washington anymore, at least not for the last 2 years. They really don't govern much outside the beltway these days.
The levees held in Manhattan so far, if they get something bigger than the cat 2...Don't want to think about it.
Times up...
