Photovoltaic solar power reportedly gains momentum in Spain

Taking advantage of the special tariffs for renewable energies, the number of photovoltaic solar power plants is increasing in Spain, and they may soon reach numbers beyond the government's expectations, reported Reuters.

At the current rate of expansion, the country will have somewhere between 800MW and 1,200MW of photovoltaic power by next year, compared to an estimated target of 400MW by 2010, Reuters quotes the Spanish industry ministry as saying.

Reuters quoted industry minister Joan Clos as saying: "We already have 80% of the target."
